This 1970 MGB carried
Saskatchewan plates when purchased by Rick Astley while he lived in
Ontario. The car was not running and the carpets could be lifted to
reveal the road underneath. The powertrain components (engine to wheels)
have been overhauled or replaced, as have the brakes and suspension. The
electrical system was totally rebuilt, the operation providing material
for the owner's MG Electrical web site (see Links). Once the body was
made safe, the vehicle passed the Ontario safety check and was
registered there. The owner's job
took him to the UK for 2 years where the car got the license plate it
still carries on the front. It later crossed the Atlantic for the third
time when Rick was again transferred, this time to Michigan.
Although a good "driver" and
superficially in good condition, the car's bodywork still requires much
work.
The 1970 is very identifiable in having
the, unique to that year, split rear bumper. Any eventual body
restoration will probably also be accompanied by a re-spray to the, also
unique to the 1970 model, Blue Royale colour, vestiges of which can
still be found on the car.
