Winter Warmer

2007

Sunday 11th November

Surprisingly it was raining at Pease Pottage Services

That didn't stop is gathering outside for Graham to brief us

Heading into the ford meant more water

The sun came out to dry us off and soon we were stopping to get our tops off

Halfway point but still a little cold for Ice Creams!

Lined up at Ashurst - Pooh sticks anyone ?

Ian pays his tribute on Remembrance Day

Looks like a convoy !

Nice autumnal country lanes

Most of us made it to the Parson's Pig

....but we left a little space for Ian !

This year's Winter Warmer Run coincided with Remembrance Day and it was poignant to start our run with two minutes silence at the Pease Pottage Services and pleasing that all the customers and staff paid their respects.

Outside though it was raining and it looked as if we were in for a wet day in the Sussex countryside. Luckily it eased off enough for us to venture outside and Graham to give us our briefing and Tulip diagrams . With hoods and collars up we set off to the clunk of windscreen wipers and some nice country lanes including a watersplash to ensure the underneath of our Fs were sprayed clean . Halfway point was in Ashurst Forest and the Kings Standing car park where a lone ice cream vendor looked at us hopefully as we all drove in , only to be disappointed as we admired the views instead. However by this time the sun had come out and the skies were blue as you can see in the pictures . This meant the hoods came down - apart from those who had fixed their hard tops already in place.

Ian and Adrian were first off turning left as the route plan stated, the rest of us kicked a few more tyres and were surprised to see Adrian re appear again a short while later with a confused look. "Ah" says Graham "when I drew a left hand turn I actually meant that you should turn right". We were quite surprised that the two early leavers didn't know that (but glad they found out before we all managed to get lost ....just like Ian & Liz!)

Having established that left is right we all headed out into the countryside for the final stretch to the Parson's Pig where a warm roast dinner was waiting for us. We left a gap in the line of Fs for Ian to park ....whenever he might run up .

This year's run was Graham's first for the South East Fers and he did really well with some lovely autumnal roads to enjoy and he even threw in a deliberate mistake for us to work out - just what we like in the South East Fers - a bit of a challenge.
