The annual International MG Show and Spares
Day at Stoneleigh always marks the beginning of the season for the
main MGF Register. This year we took the opportunity to officially launch
the new F register magazine FasTForward as well.
Several of the regions organised runs in to the event from Wales,
Essex, the South East and the Midlands. The SEfers met up at Cherwell
Services on the M40 and headed in across country through the early morning
mist.
Upon arrival the Fs and TFs made a B line for the cow sheds and the
under cover parking. This year there were a huge number of F/TFs and Zed
cars present with many of their owners looking for parts to modify their
cars. Many personal plates were in evidence and lots of individually
styled cars from the pink striped to the highly tuned.
INside the hall the F Register hand hosted Mike Gedge's Red Hot
modified car which sparkled in it's TF body styling and attracted the
Meguiars polish people to take photos of it. Mike's car was joined by Rick
Earle's early car "Number 72" which may soon be re christened as
"Purple Haze". Both cars attracted a lot of interest and the
stand itself was in a very convenient position - right in front of
the loos and ensured plenty of passing traffic !
Fs and TF were to be found scattered throughout the halls - on the BAS
stand on Demon Tweeks and elsewhere . The MGOC had their new club F on
show with it's uprated Land Rover gasket conversion hopefully eliminating
the HGF at last.
High Noon was the official launch time for FasTForward and the
consultant editor of MG Enthusiast , Martyn Wise, did the honours by
cutting the ribbon for us and sending the first edition out in to
the world amongst the flying sparkling wine corks and party poppers .
After posing with FTF editor Tim Morris for the photos Martyn
toasted to the success of the new magazine from MGF 10 mugs !
With the stand crowded for most of the day we were pleased with the
amount of interest and welcomed the many new faces who came over to say
hello. There's no doubt that the F register is growing as the price of the
cars comes down and more and more people are buying them and discovering
how much Fun they really are . So much fun that MGF Committee member
Paul Smith has just bought his second - one of the last 631
final edition TFs and another personal plate for his wife MG MRS !
Of course there were one or two other MG cars of interest at the
show including displays by the MGM group - MGOC, MGCC, Midget and Sprite
group plus many others as well as all the traders - F interest kept up by
Brown & Gammons, Rimmer Bros, BAS , MG Mania and Full Throttle
amongst the memorabilia and rusty old MGB bits !
Finally it was time to pack up and tackle the M40 for the trip home !
