MGF 10 THE BIGGEST GATHERING OF F and TFs EVER |
||
|
There were over 500 MGF and TFs gathered at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon on Sunday 16th October making this the biggest gathering of both models ever. Such a great turnout shows how much the marque is still appreciated by enthusiasts across Europe with one person even driving just under 1000 miles to be there. The Car's chief designer, Gerry McGovern, was at the show in the afternoon and pleased to see so many different variations on his design. However he unsurprisingly still cherishes the unaltered car and chose a particularly pure 1998 Abingdon special belonging to Joe Brown as the Car of the Show. He also met many car owners signing anything from a show programme to an MGF boot lid !. Other members of the design team were also present at the show and answered questions from the audience in a special Design Team Panel. Rob Oldaker, Brian Griffin and Adrian Guyll were all presented with special 10th Anniversary plaques by MGF Register Chairman Rob Bell and MGCC President Bill Wallis for their services in creating the MGF. Gerry McGovern was also presented with a special plaque by MGF 10 Show Co Ordinator Tim Morris for his outstanding contribution to the MGF design. There were several cars featured in special displays including modified cars, cars with websites, press cars, race cars and of course cars celebrating their 10th birthdays this year. A special prize was presented to the oldest production car on the day which went to car number fourteen belonging to Patrick Warner from Eastbourne. On special display inside the museum and courtesy of Nanjing Automotive was MGF 1 - the very first car off the production line. Behind it was a Metro Test "Mule" used for road testing the mid engine layout of the MGF in disguise as a Pizza Delivery Van. Still inside the museum there was a series of lectures and demonstrations on various MGF related subjects from car care to the history of Longbridge. Andy Phillips aka Scarlet Fever spent most of the day taking an MGF to bits and putting it back together again in Scarlet's Workshop.
