FasTForward Launch at Stoneleigh

The MGF Register are venturing into regular publishing for the first time with a new quarterly 40 page handy size magazine . This will be the only magazine available concentrating wholly on the F and TF and will feature articles ranging from the technical to the more general interest but all with an F/TF bias. It's available only on a subscription basis - details can be obtained by e-mailing scribe@mgfregister.org

Consultant editor of MG Enthusiast Martyn Wise and Editor of FasTForward Tim Morris launch the new magazine

The magazine was launched by MG Enthusiast Consultant Editor Martyn Wise and the FasTForward Editor Tim Morris at the International MG show at Stoneleigh on February 19th. Martyn ceremoniously cut the union jack bunting on the MGF register stand at the Stoneleigh show whilst around him party poppers popped and sparkling wine corks flew in celebration. The very first copy went to one of the sponsors Steve Marsh from A Plan Insurance. The magazine proved so popular that several people were asking for autographed copies - no doubt to become a valuable collectors item for the future.

The first edition  features a 14 page special on MGF 10 which will bring closure to that event before the Register moves into 2006 with an exciting array of events for the F/TF owner planned including several trips to the continent. All events can be found at the www.mgfregister.org website or by checking this site.

LONGBRIDGE LEASE SIGNED

It has now been confirmed that Nanjing Auto have signed a 33 year lease on a section of the Longbridge plant. They have also stated again their intention to resume manufacture of the TF in 2007 employing between 600 and 1000 workers . However the lease does contain a six month “get out” clause. T&GWU have welcomed the deal which could lead to 100,000 cars being made a year.  UK Chairman Wang Hongbiao stated he was delighted to have reached the deal with site owners St Modwen. The lease will cost around £1.8m a year and relates to the 105 acre South Works section of the Longbridge Plant including two assembly lines, paint shop, and offices. The total area is about one quarter of the old plant. This indicates a much smaller operation and specialised sports car manufacture. The remaining site is due to be developed by St Modwen with a mixture of housing, retail and industrial developments.

The picture shows  Bill Oliver Chief Exec St Modwen , Leader of Birmingham city council , Wang Hongbiao chairman Nanjing Auto exchanging gifts in typical Chinese tradition at the signing of the lease.

In another development BMW have put the Rover marque up for sale . B<W chief executive Helmut Panke has refused to name any potential buyers for the marque however it is thought that Ford have first option as part of a deal when they acquired Land Rover in 2000. It is probable that Nanjing will also be interested in obtaining this established brand name to go alongside MG.
