It was a splendid day down at Brooklands Museum in Surrey once
we'd managed to negotiate somewhere to put our stall and two display
cars. We ended up at the end of a row of ZT 260s who's 260 group
managed to find over twenty of their model to attend this year which was
fantastic. We faced the first row of MGF/TFs until the cars invaded the
MGA spaces and then took over the grass paddock area the other side of
the garages , there must have been approaching seventy F/TFs at this
year event which is something of a record for us and a pleasure to see.
On the stall we continued the TF 5th Anniversary with two cars on
display in contrasting models - A TF 80th Anniversary model belonging to
Paula Martin with all the Special trimmings and a standard TF135 just
purchased by new TF owner Emily Morris (mind you she's been around MGs
since she was a youngster , her dad is Tim Morris, so it wasn't too much
of a surprise that she ended up with one !). We also had a photographic
display that we just about managed to keep on the ground in the gusting
wind.
The Essex Roadsters roared into the museum an hour before it actually
opened and even before we'd managed to set up the F register stall
- they're certainly a keen bunch !
A little later they were joined by the South Mids Sportsters and the
East Anglia MGF group who had driven down in convoy from the midlands -
what a great sight it was as they all drove in together. There was also
a sprinkling of the South Coast Group and some from Cotswolds area as
well - great to see people travelling some distance for this event.
Elsewhere at the show there was a strong turn out of pre war cars and
early post war T series but where were all the Bs ? There were some up
on the finishing straight but the F/TFs certainly outnumbered them this
year. It was good to see some 80's MG saloons out as well with a nice
pair of Maestro Turbos and a brace of Metro Turbos in white. Also some
MG 1300s as well as other modern Z types up near the members banking.
The Test Hill runs were well subscribed this year but only two TFs
took part and both managed to get three runs up the hill with no
problems. In fact most of the cars got up this year and there was only
one that didn't make it and had to reverse down again - they made
it second time though without making the mistake of changing gear
halfway up.
Several special cars were spotted at the event including some Trophy
160s, Sunstorm and Spark, Andy Phillips's Scarlet Fever managed to get
an MOT and turned up, Deb Evans Wizard of Nos nitrous drag car was there
as well as plenty of other fantastic cars all gleaming in the Surrey
sunshine.
You may notice in a couple of the pictures a Concorde or two ?
Several people took the Concorde Experience on the full size restored
plane but we wonder if everyone noticed the scale model by the new
entrance with it's wings dislocated. This aircraft had only been
delivered on the Friday before MG Day having been dismantled and removed
from it's location at the entrance to Heathrow airport where it had
welcomed travellers for a couple of decades. It will now direct people
to the museum and it's hoped to put it on a prominent site as you
approach Weybridge from the M25.
I think the logo on Richard Stone's car seen in one of the pictures
here sums up the MG ethos quite nicely "One Life, Live it" - we
certainly intend to and we hope that you will as well with the help of
your F/TF of course.
