Underwent a full body off
restoration started in Nov. 1993, and completed in July 1996,
working on it four days a week. I did all the mechanical bits
and a friend who runs a body shop did all the panel work and
spray painting. |
| History |
Car was originally built to North American
spec with steel wheels and air cooler. I bought the car
registered JQR 789 from a sports car dealer in Marina del
Rey in Dec. 1992. Kept it at my sisters home, and using on my
visits to Los Angeles until I had it shipped back to
England in Sept 1993. After collecting it from customs in
Stratford SE London I had it MOT'd and registered before
starting a full restoration. |
| Modifications |
In sept 2003 a 5 speed Sierra
gearbox conversion was carried out. It now makes a very
pleasant car to drive on long journeys. |

I take it out to most of the club
outings and also on various runs, rallies, MG and general car
shows. |

| Anything Else ? |
Our most unlucky trip was when
taking the A up to the Harrogate Northern National Rally in 2002, it
suffered a puncture on the L rear tyre about amile from our
destination in the pouring rain! The show was then
cancelled due to the water logged site! On the way home
it would not start after brief stop at Tesco's in Oakham.
The young mechanic who came from the breakdown service, had
never seen or worked on an electrical system with a dynamo and
regulator. the fault was that one of the 6 volt batteries had
totally failed and we all ended up coming home on a car
transporter. |
