2002

The Cockshoot Cup 2002 will be fought out over twelve rounds as follows: Details available from Paul Goodman paul@good36.freeserve.co.uk

Round 1
After a wet qualifying session, the track dried in time for the Cockshoot Cup racers to start their season in good conditions. Arto Kesterlian led from pole position in his MGB but was challenged after a couple of laps by Jon Paul Ivey who took the lead in his Midget. He then pulled away, but on the last lap, the fuel pump on his car failed allowing Arto to take the race win. Into second place came Mike Peters who drove hard after an early spin to pass Andy Storer who ended up with the third spot. In the standard class, Sean Peters began the defence of his title with a solid victory in front of a vary close dice. At the end of the race, Richard Sapcote held onto second from Mark Prutton both driving Midgets. Right behind these three were the battling Bentley brothers with Andy pipping Simon this time. The fastest laps, which were new records, went to father Mike and son Sean Peters, a first for the Championship.
The next race is at Oulton Park on April 27th.

Round 2
The second round of the 2002 Cockshoot Cup Championship was run at Oulton Park on a damp track on Saturday 27th April. A stunningly close race was won by Jon Paul Ivey from Andy Storer with the winning margin being five hundredths of a second. The two MG Midget drivers were chased by the MGBs of Adam Egar and Arto Kesterlian who finished in that order. In the standard class, Sean Peters continued the defence of his title by winning again from a frantic dice resolved in favour of Peter Toes who took second and newcomer Paul Naish in third. Several cars were damaged in a first lap incident which resulted in a red flag and a restarted race.

Round 3
The hardy Cockshoot Cup competitors crossed to Eastern England on Sunday 28th April to continue the fight for the 2002 Championship. Another wet race took place at the end of the race meeting in dark conditions. In a repeat of the previous days race, Jon Paul Ivey again beat Andy Storer by a narrow margin. This time Arto Kesterlian drove hard into third place with Mike Peters in fourth. The standard class cars also re-started their dice from Saturday with Mark Prutton just managing to hold off the battling Bentley brothers with Simon in his Midget beating Andrew in his MGB. Sean Peters slipped back in the frantic action, but still scored points for sixth place.

After three rounds the leading scores are -
Class A - Sean Peters 24; Simon Bentley 18; Richard Sapcote 17; Andy Bentley 17; Mark Prutton 17.
Class C - Arto Kesterlian 23; Andy Storer 23; Jon Paul Ivey 20; Mike Peters 14.
Next two rounds are at Croft on 11th and 12th of May.

Rounds 4 and 5
Bright sunny weather greeted the Cockshoot Cup drivers who arrived at Croft for rounds four and five. Mechanical problems in qualifying left a slightly depleted field, but did not stop some exciting racing. On Saturday, Jon Paul Ivey triumphed over Andy Storer after some minor contact late in the race. The result was reversed on Sunday with Andy setting a cracking pace with Jon Paul having a major spin whilst chasing. Into third place on Sunday came a relieved Mike Peters after gearbox problems on Saturday. Sadly, Arto Kesterlian's MGB had engine problems on Saturday resulting in two non finishes. In the standard class Sean Peters won on both days but was pushed hard by Mike Prutton in his Midget who finished second twice. Into third on Saturday battled Paul Newton with a fastest lap from Andy Bentley in his MGB. On Sunday Richard Sapcote took the third place from Craig Hewitt both driving Midgets. The next round is at Rockingham on Saturday 25th May (not S! unday).

Championship positions are as follows:
Modified Class : Andy Storer 32, Jon Paul Ivey 29, Arto Kesterlian 23, Mike Peters 17.5
Standard Class : Sean Peters 44, Mark Prutton 33, Richard Sapcote 28, Andy Bentley 23, Carig Hewett 22, Peter Toes 19

Rounds 6 and 7
Damp and dangerous track conditions greeted the Cockshoot Cup drivers on their first ever visit to Rockingham on 25th May. Leading contender Jon Paul Ivey was sidelined after a qualifying session engine failiure, but the rest of the field took the rolling start as the rain started. Surprisingly it was slick shod Andy Storer who took an early lead, but disaster struck Arto Kesterlian as at around half distance he made heavy contact with the concrete wall at turn four. There was no alternative for the Clerk of the Course and the race had to be stopped. This meant that Andy was the victor with Mike Peters and John Hewitt taking the other podium positions in their Midgets, although these positions had been reversed on the lap when the red flag was shown! In the standard class Sean Peters spun out on lap1 and his charge through the field had only taken him to fourth by the stoppage. Winning the class for the first time ever was Andy Bentley in his MGB with Richard Sapcote and Craig Hewett taking the second and third in their Midgets, this being Craig's first trophy in racing. There is now a mid season rest period with the next two races being at the MGCC Silverstone International Weekend on 20th and 21st July.

This leaves the Championship points at the halfway stage as:
Modified Class : Andy Storer 42, Jon Paul Ivey 29, Mike Peters 25, Arto Kesterlian 23
Standard Class : Sean Peters 50, Richard Sapcote 36, Mark Prutton 33, Andy Bentley 33, Craig Hewett 29, Peter Toes 22.

Rounds 8 and 9
Rounds seven and eight of the Cockshoot Cup Championship were run at the Silverstone International meeting on July 20th and 21st. On saturday a great scrap for victory went in favour of Jon Paul Ivey from Arto Kesterlian. JPs Midget took the lead towards the end of the race from Artos MGB. Into third place came Mike peters who was challenging Arto fir second at the end of the race. Class B went to Martin Richardson from Mark Ashworth. In the standard class, Sean Peters drove a blistering race to win from Paul Newton and Mark Prutton all driving Midgets. Modified championship leader Andy Storer was unable to start because of engine problems. On Sunday JP's car broke when the lights turned to green resulting in a battle between Arto and Mike Peters resolved when Arto also had mechanical problems. So Mike won his first ever race from Adam Egar and Ian Hodkinson in MGBs. In the standard class, the first three were once again Peters, Newton and Prutton. Full championship points will follow on here soon.

Round 10
Sean Peters driving his MG Midget clinched the Cockshoot Cup Championship for 2002 at Croft on August 24th. By taking second place in the Standard Class Sean scored enough points to ensure that he could not be caught with three rounds to go including the second of the weekend. Race winner on Saturday and Sunday was Jon Paul Ivey finding reliability after missing the qualifying session. Second on Saturday was Mike Peters from Arto Kesterlian in his MGB. Arto moved up to second on Sunday in Mike's absence. Winner of the Standard Class on Saturday was Simon Bentley after a great scrap which saw him lead and then spin down to sixth before fighting back up the field. Behind Sean on Saturday in third was Jake Slack in his MGB and fourth was Mark Prutton. On Sunday, Mark took the class win from Paul Newton and Richard Sapcote all driving Midgets. Next round is at Oulton Park on Saturday 7th September.

Leading scores after ten rounds are:

Class A Sean Peters 78, Mark Prutton 63, Richard Sapcote, 48, Craig Hewitt 47, Paul Newton 40, Andy Bentley 39.

Class C Jon Paul Ivey 49, Mike Peters 46.5, Andy Storer 42, Arto Kesterlian 38.5, Adam Egar 20.

Round 11
A full grid of Cockshoot Cup 2002 MG sports cars put on a superb race at the MG Car Club race meeting at Oulton Park on September 7th. After a close battle, the race win and Malimson Trophy was won by Jon Paul Ivey driving his MG Midget. Storming to second place after a poor practice was Andy Storer after a dice with third place man Ian Hodkinson and early leader Adam Egar both driving MGBs. Sadly, both Arto Keaterlian and Mike Peters retired with mechanical problems. Martin Richardson won class B in his road modified MGB and with it the Genesis Trophy. The standard class and Entune Trophy was won by new champion Sean Peters who also beat the twelve year old lap record. Behind Sean the Bentley brothers fought hard with Simon in his Midget just beating Andrew in his MGB. Final round is at Donington Park on October 20th.

Points scores after 11 rounds are:

Class A Sean Peters 84; Mark Prutton 63; Richard Sapcote 51; Craig Hewett 48; Paul Newton 47; Andy Bentley 46

Class C Jon Paul Ivey 59; Andy Storer 50; Mike Peters 46.5; Arto Kesterlian 38.5; Adam Egar 26; Ian Hodkinson 18.

Round 12
The final round of the 2002 Cockshoot Cup was run in wet conditions at Donington Park on 20th October. The race was actually run in two parts after a red flag incident stopped the first part when Paul Newton spun his Midget and was hit by Richard Sapcote in his similar car. Race winner was Jon Paul Ivey who beat Andy Storer by 0.8 seconds after a great scrap. Ian Hodkinson forced his MGB into third place behind the two Midgets with Mike Peters and John Hewitt taking fourth and fifth. Jeff Culkin took Class B for road modified cars. The standard class had several leaders, but at the flag, new champion Sean Peters pipped Paul Naish and Andrew Bentley. Andy actually took the lead, but spun it away at Redgate Corner. So at the end of the season, Jon Paul Ivey is the Class C Champion, Martin Richardson takes Class B and Sean Peters the Championship and Class A.

Scores are Class A Sean Peters 88; Mark Prutton 63; Andy Bentley 53; Richard Sapcote 51; Craig Hewett 49; Paul Newton 47; Simon Bentley 42.

Class C Jon Paul Ivey 69; Andy Storer 58; Mike Peters 52.5; Arto Kesterlian 38.5; Adam Egar 26; Ian Hodkinson 25; John Hewitt 18.

2001

The North Western Centre of the MG Car Club is pleased to announce the details of the Cockshoot Cup Race Championship for the year 2001. The Championship will be contested over twelve rounds with the best nine scores to count. There will continue to be three classes for standard, road-modified and modified MGBs and MG Midgets. The dates are as follows: For further details on the rules and regulations please contact the championship coordinator Paul Goodman on 01625 876300 or paul@good36.freeserve.co.uk

Round 1
The first round of the 2001 Cockshoot Cup Championship was run at Oulton Park on 7th April in monsoon conditions. Andrew Storer in the "Pukka Pies" Midget drove a storming race to take a win. Jon Paul Ivey in a Midget finished second after moving back through the field after a poor start from pole position. Equally praiseworthy in third place was Arto Kesterlian in his MGB who hates the wet weather! In the standard class Graham Jones piloted his MGB to a dominant victory ahead of a mighty scrap which was resolved in the favour of the Bentley Brothers, Andrew in his MGB beating Simon in his Midget for second. The second round in (hopefully) drier conditions is at Cadwell Park on Sunday 22nd April.

Round 2
The second round of the Cockshoot Cup Championship for 2001 was run in dry conditions at Cadwell Park on the 22nd April. Arto Kesterlian in his powerful MGB took the race win from pole position on the starting grid. Arto was pressed all the way to the flag by Andy Storer in his MG Midget who added to his first round win with a solid second place. Behind these two a massive scrap for third place was resolved with Ian Hodkinson taking the place in his MGB from John Hewitt and Mike Peters both driving Midgets. In the standard class a superb three way dice was resolved by the thickness of a coat of paint. Sean Peters taking the class win from defending champion Mark Prutton with Simon Bentley taking the third place. First round winner Graham Jones failed to take the start of the race. All this means that Storer leads the Championship after two races.

Round 3
Jon Paul Ivey dominated round three of the Cockshoot Cup 2001 at Croft Circuit on June 9th taking pole position and a clear race win. Closest rivals Arto Kesterlian and Andy Storer were both non finishers with mechanical problems. Mike Peters drove his Midget into second place, a best ever finish, with consistent Ian Hodkinson just behind in his MGB taking third place. A massive battle among the Midgets for the standard class was resolved in favour of Sean Peters from Simon Bentley and Richard Sapcote. Both Paul newton, in the gravel, and Mark Prutton with mechanical problems failed to finish having been in the class lead at various points in the race. So after three rounds Simon Bentley and Sean Peters lead the Championship with 22 points each. In the modified class Ivey, Kesterlian and Storer all have 18. Next two rounds are at Silverstone at the MG Car Club International meeting.

Rounds 4 and 5
Dry, suuny and warm weather resulted in lap record breaking times during the running of the fourth and fifth rounds of the Cockshoot Cup Championship at Silverstone. Quickest driver on both days was Jon Paul Ivey who took two pole positions and two race wins driving his MG Midget. Second on both days was John Hewitt, and third on both days was Andy Storer both also driving Midgets. In the standard class, two superb battles took place. On Saturday, Simon Bentley took the win from Richard Sapcote and Sean Peters, whilst on Sunday Sean took the win from Richard and Mark Prutton. Sadly, Simon suffered a mechanical problem early in Sunday's race. After the dust had settled, the score sheet came out and we have new joint leaders. Jon Paul Ivey and Sean Peters share the lead with thirty eight points each and also lead the classes. Behind Jon Paul in the modified class, Andy Storer has thirty two points and Mike Peters twenty nine points. In the standard class, Sim! on Bentley is second with thirty two and Richard Sapcote third with twenty nine points. The next two rounds are at Anglesey Circuit on July 14th and 15th.

Full race results from Silverstone

Rounds 6 and 7
Two exciting races around the twisty and narrow Anglesey Circuit did nothing to make the destination of the Championship any clearer. On Saturday 14th July, the race win went to John Hewitt, his first of the year, closely followed by Jon Paul Ivey and Andy Storer in second and third places. Standard class honours went to Simon Bentley from Graham Jones and Andy Bentley, the latter two driving MGBs as the Bs fought back against the Midgets. On Sunday, Jon Paul Ivey was in front for much of the race, but a broken gearbox at the last corner saw him overtaken by Arto Kesterlian and Andy Storer with Jon Paul having to settle for third. In the standard ranks another great drive from Andy Bentley resulted in a double win with Richard Sapcote and Sean Peters all driving Midgets taking the other places. So, after seven rounds Jon Paul Ivey leads the Championship by a single point from Simon Bentley who, in turn is one point ahead of Sean Peters.

Full leading scores are:
Modified, J P Ivey 53; A Storer 47; J Hewitt 44; A Kesterlian 38.
Standard, S Bentley 52; S Peters 51; R Sapcote 40; Andy Bentley 40; G Jones 30.
The next round is at Oulton Park on Saturday 28th July.

Round 8
In sunny and hot conditions Arto Kesterlian in his MGB dominated round eight of the Cockshoot Cup Championship at Oulton Park on 28th July. Arto took pole position and fended off an early challenge from John Hewitt to take a stunning win. Into second place came Andy Storer in his Midget with Mike Peters completing the top three in his Midget. Hewitt trailed in fourth after major gear box problems. With Jon Paul Ivey absent, Storer now moves into the lead of the modified class. In the standard class, Sean Peters clinched the victory after Simon Bentley slid into early leader Paul Newton at Fosters. Simon then battled with brother Andy, but to no avail finishing third to Andys second place. This means that Sean now leads the standard class and the Championship.

Leading points are: Modified Class - Andy Storer 55; Jon Paul Ivey 53; John Hewitt 50; Arto Kesterlian 48; Mike Peters 41.
Standard Class - Sean Peters 61; Simon Bentley 59; Andy Bentley 48; Richard Sapcote 40; Graham Jones 30.
The ninth round is at Snetterton on 19th August.

Round 9
Round 9 of the Cockshoot Cup Championship took place at Snetterton on 19th August in soggy conditions. All the drivers who started managed to finish the race despite visits to cornfields and multiple spins. Jon Paul Ivey took another victory from Andy Storer with John Hewitt slotting into third place after a dice with Arto Kesterlian. All the first three were driving Midgets. In the standard class Sean Peters worked his way through the field to take the victory from Andy Bentley and Jake Slack who took his first ever trophy home for third place. Sean Peters is now the clear leader of the Championship, but with three rounds to go dropped scores will come into play as the best nine results count.
Leading scores are now in the modified class - Jon Paul Ivey 63; Andy Storer 63; John Hewitt 57; Arto Kesterlian 54; Mike Peters 46; Tim Forwood 32. Standard class Sean Peters 71; Simon Bentley 61; Andy Bentley 56; Richard Sapcote 43; Graham Jones 35; Peter Toes 31.
Next round is at Oulton Park on September 22nd with the eleventh round the day after at Cadwell Park.

Round 10
A dry Oulton Park resulted in lap record breaking speeds on the full circuit. A very close race resulted in Arto Kesterlian pipping John Paul Ivey by the width of a coat of paint to take the race victory. Both Arto in his MGB and Jon Paul in his Midget set new record times, but Arto came away with the lap record. Into third place came Mike Peters in his Midget whilst John Hewitts race ended in the tyre wall after brake problems on the last lap. Sean Peters took another win in the standard class from Simon Bentley and Paul Newton all of whom were driving Midgets. Special mention for Jeff Culkin taking fourth in the class after a (very) expensive trip over from Dublin.

Round 11
The intrepid Cockshoot Cup drivers crossed to the east of England from a dry Oulton Park on Saturday to a wet and miserable Cadwell Park on Sunday 23rd September. John Hewitt repaired his brakes and headed the race for seven and a half laps until an ambitious overtaking attempt by Jon Paul Ivey resulted in contact between the Midgets and retirement for John. The win by Jon Paul means that he is the modified class champion for 2001. Into third place came the consistent Mike Peters. Son Sean Peters drove superbly to take the standard class and clinch the class championship. Closest rival Simon Bentley was unable to start due to mechanical problems. Brother Andy drove his MGB hard to try to deprive Sean of points but had to settle for second place from Jeff Culkin who took third to make his hectic weekend worthwhile. Sean Peters and Jon Paul Ivey will now have to fight at Croft on the 6th October to decide who is the Cockshoot Champion for 2001.
Leading scores are: Modified Class - J P Ivey 81; A Kesterlian 72; A Storer 63; M Peters 60; J Hewitt 57; Standard Class S Peters 83; S Bentley 69; A Bentley 62; R Sapcote 50; P Toes 41; G Jones 37.

Round 12
Congratulations to Sean Peters who clinched the Cockshoot Cup Championship for 2001 at Croft on Saturday 6th October.

Jon Paul Ivey took the lead from the start of the race on a dry track knowing that he had to win to threaten Sean. Unfortunately disaster struck early in the race with a suspension breakage on the yellow Midget leaving J P a spectator. Andy Storer in his Midget took over the race and drove to victory from Arto Kesterlian nursing a sick engine in his MGB with John Hewitt taking third place. The standard cars put on a superb display of racing with Simon Bentley wining from Sean Peters and Richard Sapcote in third place. So Sean became the 2001 Champion and standard class winner from Simon Bentley and Andy Bentley. Jon Paul clinched the modified class with Arto Kesterlian second and Andy Storer third.

Final points are:
Modified Class: Jon Paul Ivey 81; Arto Kesterlian 75; Andy Storer 73; John Hewitt 64; Mike Peters 55; Tim Forwood 32.
Standard Class: Sean Peters 85; Simon Bentley 77; Andy Bentley 63; Richard Sapcote 54; Peter Toes 42; Graham Jones 37.

The Championship battle will be resumed again in 2002 and race dates will be available soon. Thanks to all drivers and race organisers for a great season.

2000

The best nine scores from the twelve events will count towards the Championship.

Contact Paul Goodman for further details.

Round 1
The first round of the Cockshoot Cup 2000 racing championship took place at the MG Car Club Race Meeting at Cadwell Park on 26th March. The Cockshoot Cup competitors copped for the worst of the weather at the end of the meeting. The field slithered round in torrential rain with John Hewitt emerging victorious in his MG Midget. John won class C for modified cars from Andrew Storer in his Midget and Arto Kesterlian in his MGB. Class B for road modified cars was clinched by Martin Richardson. Reigning champion for the last two years Mark Prutton opened his 2000 points scoring with a win in standard class A from Richard Sapcote and Darrell Atherton all three driving Midgets. Next round is at Brands Hatch on May 7th

Round 2
Round two of the Cockshoot Cup 2000 was run at Brands Hatch on 7th April. the action packed race was one of the best seen for several years and resulted in a first win after many years of trying for Chris Groves driving a MG Midget. Chris held off John Hewitt in another Midget and arto Kesterlian in an MGB for twelve laps of the circuit, the three finishing less than one second apart. In the standard class Mark Prutton continued on his winning way by beating Paul Newton and Sean Peters, all three driving MG Midgets. It was young Sean's first top three place. This all means that Mark Prutton leads the Championship with a perfect twenty points from John Hewitt with eighteen. Next round is on May 21st at Snetterton.

Round 3
The third round of the Cockshoot Cup 2000 took place at Snetterton on May 21st on a very wet circuit. This did not stop the Championship leaders from taking maximium points again. John Hewitt won the race in his MG Midget from Ian Hodkinson and Arto Kesterlian both driving MGBs. Andy Storer was unlucky to have to stop when leading allowing Hewitt to take victory. Mark Prutton again won the standard class despite a badly overheated engine because of a blown head gasket. Simon Bentley and Peter Toes in their Midgets took the other standard class places. Championship leader is still Mark Prutton with a maximum thirty points from John Hewitt with twenty eight. Next rounds are at the MG Car Club International Weekend with round four on Saturday and five on Sunday.

Rounds 4 and 5
Rounds four and five of the Cockshoot Cup 2000 took place in the unexpected June heat at the MG Car Club International weekend. Both races were closely fought with victory on both days going to Jon Paul Ivey driving a modified MG Midget. In round four, arto Kesterlian led in his MGB for three quarters of the race but a broken halfshaft put him out. This left Ivey to win from a hard charging John Hewitt and Chris Groves also in Midgets. The standard class was won bu Paul Newton who set a new lap record in pushing previously unbeaten Mark Prutton back into second place. Third in class went to Sean Peters. In round five Ivey again defeated John Hewitt, with arto Kesterlian clinching third from the back of the grid in his repaired car. Mark Prutton resumed his winning ways defeating Simon Bentley and Richard Sapcote who were second and third. Mark Prutton now has 48 points in the championship with John Hewitt second on 44. the next two rounds at at Anglesey in ! July.

Jon Paul had to settle for second place with Ian Hodkinson's MGB taking third. Behind Jon Paul on Saturday, Arto Kesterlian and John Hewitt driving MGB and Midget took the podium places. The standard cars had their own race at Anglesey. On Saturday, Mark Prutton won from Paul Newton and Graham Jones, but on Sunday the Bentley brothers took a one two with Simon beating Andrew and Graham Jones again finishing third. Mark Prutton leads the Championship with 64 points from John Hewitt with 56. Jon Paul Ivey is now up to third with 44 and Arto Kesterlian is fourth on 42. Next round is at Snetterton on August 5th

Round 8
Round eight of the Cockshoot Cup 2000 was fought out at a sunny Snetterton Circuit on August 5th at the MG Car Club Race Meeting. In the modified class Arto Kesterlian took pole position and converted it into a race win. This was his first in 2000 giving yet another winner for the season. John Hewitt drove a hard race in his Midget to take second place from the similar car of Jon Paul Ivey. In the standard class Paul Newton drove his Midget to victory ahead of Sean Peters and Richard Sapcote all driving Midgets. Sean took a bew class lap record whilst chasing Paul. The Championship is now finely balanced with John Hewitt and Mark Prutton both having 64 points. Arto Kesterlian is second in the modified class with 52 ahead of Jon Paul Ivey with 51. Paul Newton is second in the standard class with 47 ahead of Richard Sapcote on 43. Round nine is on September 2nd on the daunting full circuit at Oulton Park.

Round 9
The ninth round of the Cockshoot Cup 2000 was held on the superb Oulton Park long circuit on the 2nd of September. A close race saw John Hewitt in his MG Midget just holding off Arto Kesterlian driving an MGB. A titanic battle for third place was resolved in favour of Jon Paul Ivey from Andy Storer, the gap being about one third of a cars length! In the standard class, Paul Newton beat Mark Prutton into second place with sean Peters third. Sean and John Hewitt both broke the lap records for their classes. In the Championship Juhn Hewitt now has 74 points, Mark Prutton 72 and Arto Kesterlian 60. The next two rounds are at Croft on the 7th and 8th of October.

Rounds 10-11
Rounds ten and eleven of the Cockshoot Championship for 2000 took place at Croft on October 7th and 8th in varying weather conditions. On Saturday the drivers competed on a saturated track with Ian Hodkinson taking the win despite his MGB ending the race in the barriers. This caused a red flag with the results being declared at the end of the previous lap. John Hewitt and Mike Peters in Midgets took second and third. In the standard class Ian Wright paddled his way to victory from Mark Prutton and Andy Bentley. On Sunday round eleven was held on a dry track with Arto Kesterlian winning in his MGB from Jon Paul Ivey and John Hewitt. Mark Prutton in his Midget took the standard class from Paul Newton and Andy Bentley. As a result Mark is the 2000 Champion and John Hewitt has clinched the modified class. Mark has now won his hat trick being Champion in 1998 and 1999. Next and final round is at Cadwell Park on 15th October where the other placings will be decided.

Round 12
The twelfth and final round of the Cockshoot Cup Championship 2000 took place at Cadwell Park on 15th October. After a wet qualifying session, track conditions were good and dry for the race. John Hewitt drove his MG Midget to victory after passing Arto Kesterlian in his MGB. Arto held on for second, but came under heavy pressure from Andy Storer who, in turn, just beat Ian Hodkinson in his MGB. Fifth was Jon Paul Ivey with a mis fire and rounding out the top six was Mike Peters both driving Midgets. In the standard class, new champion Mark Prutton led for eight laps, but was passed by Sean Peters in his Midget who took his first ever win. Into third place came Richard Sapcote which gained him enough points to finish third in class in the Champioship. So John Hewitt was followed by Arto Kesterlian and Jon Paul Ivey in the Championship, with Mark Prutton winning the standard class from Paul Newton and Richard Sapcote. A full review of the season will be published in the December "Safety Fast". Nearly all the drivers will be returning next year with some necomers joining them. Watch this space for details and 2001 race dates.

Martin Richardson won the road modified class in both races. The next event is on September 4th at Oulton Park on the long circuit.

Round Eleven

The eleventh round of the Cockshoot Cup sponsered by ACEquip was held at Cadwell Park on Sunday 19th September. A damp and greasy track made tyre choice difficult, but on a drying surface slicks were best and enabled Ian Hodkinson in his MGB to take a race win from Rob Huff driving a road modified class B car. John Paul Ivey drove a strong race into third place from John Hewitt in their Midgets. Class A for standard cars was again dominated by new Champion Mark Prutton although Julie Clark and Jeff Culkin fought hard whilst gaining the places. Hewitt is now almost certain to clinch the Class C for modified cars, but the remaining places in the classes will be decided at the last round at Brands Hatch on October 3rd.
