050209_jukka.jpg (80847 bytes) Now I have raced for some 2-3 years. A lot of trouble, but now I have
thge engine in 1140 cc bore with pistons made in Lithuania from the
shape of Hepolite Powermax. I used to have an engine with the tubes
inside the cylinder. The top of the tube leaked and pushed water on the
piston and it takes only afraction of a second and the water blows
trough the top gasget . Now the engine is "pure" and solid but driving
in class F 1300 cc is not so nice because the Cooper S and Abarths are
so much faster. In this race at Ahvenisto track I reached some 1.48,7
which is in this mickey Mouse track some 100 kms/h average. As you see
I try my best , main curve with 4 Th gear to keep up the speed!

I came across the Arkley page and was quite surprised to find people still have them - like Paul Tyzack I though I was the only person with one left! Mine is based on a 1966 MkII Midget which I bought in Dec 1979. I converted the Midget to an Arkley in one week in 1981 - yes, I've had it nearly 24 years and I really do use it nearly every day.
It's got a 1275cc A+ in it that's about 80bhp at the flywheel using a single 40 DCOE+LCB exhaust. Recently, I blew up the gearbox and decided to put in the Ford Sierra 5 speed unit. This is a lot of trouble, but well worth the effort of conversion. Currently, it needs the seats recovering (again) so I'm a bit embarrassed to leave the hood down... Best wishes. Pete Jones

classic_motor2000.jpg (36382 bytes) The owner of the car in Question is Stuart Gunn a resourceful self taught engineer.  The car has a sierra 5-speed box behind a 1380 with weber carburation.  Multi branch exhaust, self made.  The front grill is home made as is the rear bumper.  The radiator is Maxi 1300 with a Peugeot fan.  The steering wheel is a tilt one from a Cavalier.  The rear leaf springs have been removed and an ingenious coil over shocks system with the backaxle located to the rear spring front locating points.  Stiffens the car up very well and makes the handling very good.  On the front wings he has carefully put something like a 3/8 inch rod following the line of the wing and rolled over it with the wing edge.  It makes the wing strong and removes that tendency to bend when it gets sniffed at.  All in all a very nice project car and one which is enjoyed by its owner every bit as much as a concourse car. I have done a strip down and repaint of the body, and restored the interior. The car is painted Speedwell Blue as the old sprites used to be. Michael Greve, Copenhagen

holmgren_1.jpg (83529 bytes) This is Art Holmgren of Newberg (near Portland) Oregon USA.  This is a picture of the wife and I in our late 74 Midget. It had been in a barn in Eastern Washington collecting blow sand and bird droppings for over 8 years when we brought it home.  It is all original except for the muffler.  I put about $1,200 in parts just to get it on the road.  We love it.  It is now setup with a tow bar so we can pull it behind our Motor Home.  Great day rider. V8 in a Midget! - "Here's a picture of the engine bay. Right now there's a large "hot rod" bulge on the bonnet, but I can drop the engine mounts another 1.5-2", and a low-profile intake manifold will allow more than enough room under a stock bonnet...enough for a normal sized air cleaner, and breathing room" - Brad  - hopefully more to follow.......
