Surrey Area News - December 1998
by David Wright

David WrightA line line up under the early November sunlightWell from a club point of view I think the AGM was very successful - an excellent venue displaying a good selection of cars in the paddock at Brooklands, and approximately 37 people turned out to support the event.

A number of probing thoughts about how to promote and develop the club were put to the Committee, and a searching debate on the production processes of MASCOT generated some helpful proposals. It was good to meet up with friends from other areas, and to be able to drive home with hoods down!

November club night was characterised by "Cool dude" Kirk arriving in a white Chevrolet Corvette purchased from the Kruse auction at the NEC. US excess and V8 5.7 rumble was enjoyed by all. As a distinctly British thoroughbred alternative, Bill had come in his Austin Healey l00M spec car, so votes for British noise against US noise? Let's not embarrass anybody, but just note that Kirk's car has a lot of plastic and iron for your money!

Spridgets take over 'The Paddock'This area has 2 heritage shell rebuilds going on at present, Geoff has started his recently, and is undertaking all the work himself, and Paul hopes to take delivery of his very shortly. Any interesting experiences will be reported.

As this report is read, we will be planning our 1999 activities, and all ideas from Surrey area stalwarts are very welcome - Mothball Rally and visit to Young's brewery are two ideas for the early part of the year, and plans are well advanced for our main long weekend in May, which this year Mark and Diana are co-ordinating.

More details of events next month.
