In an ever expanding attempt to bring you the most effective MGTD content, I have created a Palm OS version of The Original MGTD Midget. This represents a totally new, mobile way of providing you with MGTD information. With the Palm OS version you not only have access to many of the popular features of the original Web pages, but have a new dimension of functionality as well. Within this tool you can:
|
To install the Palm OS version of the Original MGTD Midget you will need to download four files to the PC that you Hotsync with. When you have download the files below use the Install program from your Palm Desktop to install each of them. The files will be installed next time you perform a Hotsync to you Palm.
To save the files to your PC right click with your mouse on each file. When prompted use the Save Link As dialog to store the file on your PC. Remember where you placed the files so you can install them to your Palm with the Palm Install program.
This version of the Original MGTD Midget for Palm requires version 3.5 of the Palm OS or better. It may work on other versions but it has not been tested. The program takes approximately 200k of memory plus about 100 bytes for each car record entry .
The following sections pertain the use of the Palm OS version of the Original MGTD Midget. You access the program from the Palm main screen by selecting the MG Logo with MGTD as the descriptor.
The main screen of the Palm OS version of the Original MGTD Midget is your starting point to mobile MGTD information.
| From this screen you can list all of
your personal MG T related contacts. Cars are listed by entry with Owners name,
car year and model type. You can also create new contacts by pressing the New
button or view and edit existing entries by pressing the Details button. To
work on an existing entry first select it from the list and then click Details.
You also have access to the entire application from the menu bar. The menu is
accessed by clicking on any title in the application. You can always return to
this screen whereever you are by pressing the Done button on each screen. You can also access the Show function from this screen. This area of the application is where you track cars you are judging for a show or GoF. |
| The Car Directory screen provides you
with the ability to describe the details of an entry in your car list. From
this screen you may enter the owners name, choose the year (1946 -1955) of
manufacture from a pop-up list and also select the model type. The supported
models are TC, TD1-3, and TF1-2, Variants and Others. The TD3 is the Mark II.
The TF1 is the 1200 series and the TF2 is the 1500 series. Use Variants for
such cars as Arnolts. Any other car will be described as Other. Choose the exterior and interior colors from the pop-up selectors. I have provided you with the original color schemes as well as black for an interior choice and Other if you need it. Enter the cars serial and engine numbers and any club affiliation as you desire. To create a new record press the New button. A blank screen will be presented. Fill as above. If you wish to delete an entry press the Delete button. You will be prompted to confirm deletion first. Choose No if you change your mind. After the record is deleted you will be returned to the main screen. Note that the first record entered is for your car. This will be indicated by a card icon on the upper right center of the screen. |
| When you access the menu feature from the
Car Directory screen you have a different set of options available to you for
these records. This includes both record level items as well as editing
features. From the Record menu you can delete and entry (same as pressing the Delete button), duplicate a car, beam a car to another Palm (coming in a future release) and attach and delete notes (more in next section) to/from a cars record. From the Edit menu you can undo the last paste, cut highlighted text to the clipboard, copy to the clipboard, or pasted from the clipboard. The clipboard features work between other Palm applications that support the clipboard. You may want to use this feature to/from the address book or memo pad for example. Lastly you can get access to the Palm soft keyboard or the Graffiti help screen to assist you during your record editing. |
| You may use the Record menu from the Car
Directory screen to attach or delete a note from a car record. Choose attach to
create a note. The Note screen will be displayed with the name of the owner,
year and type at the top of the screen. Enter your information on this screen.
When you are finished press the Done button. If you wish to delete the note you may do this from the Car Directory menu or by pressing the Delete button from the Notes screen. You have access to the same Edit menu functions from this screen as you do from the Car Directory screen. Use the silkscreen menu to gain access to the Edit menu. |
| The Car Show screen lists the cars that
you have judged. The list includes (from left to right) the car number, the
model or class, and the current score you have judge the car (100 being the top
score). On this screen you may sort the list by entry (car number), class or score. You may also edit or enter a new judging sheet. If you wish to start a new show and delete all entries then select Clear. This will clean out the judging database and leave you with a clean slate for a new show. When you are done judging you may return to the main screen by pressing the Done button. |
| You use the Judge Car screen to enter you
score for a particular car. Each car can be judged with up to 18 different
categories with a score of between 1-5 for each. The minimum score for any car would be 1 for each category (18 points) plus 10 default points for a total score of 28 points. The maximum score (all 5's) would yield a score of 100 points. Enter the car number (generally the number given at entry time) as will as choose the class. Classes are TC, TD, TF, PreWar, Variant and Other. The default score for a new entry is 100 points. Subtract points from each category as required by selecting the appropriate popup category. Press the Score button to recalculate the score. This recalculation is done each time you move from one record to the next and is not necessary to manually do this unless you want to see the changes you made reflected in the new score immediately. When you are done you may either scroll up or down to the previous or next record in the database or choose the Done button. To create a New record choose the New button. To delete a record choose the Delete button. You will be prompted to confirm your choice before the record is deleted. |
