Due to an exclusive agreement with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust the Original MGTD Midget will be displaying up to thirty large web quality original factory photographs on this page for your restoration and reference use. These pictures were scanned from the original glass negatives and some were done at my personal expense. See the following sections on how you can contribute to the digital archival and transfer of the factory photographs and/or how to obtain high quality photographic prints of these photographs. This is a
preproduction chassis of a 1949 MGTD. Note the solid wheels. Also note the
chrome at the end of the steering column and the white area on top of the air
cleaner. Later models were fitted with a
stiffener tube
at the front body mount that reinforced the body. Notice also that the front
wheels were painted black while the rears were most likely silver, the
production color.
This is a picture of the steering housing being removed from the chassis.
Note the smooth (non finned) oil pan. Notice also that this is a right hand
drive car. Most likely one of the pre production cars as this image is used in
the workshop manual. Studying images such as
these carefully can provide you with much information on how the car was
originally constructed and finished.
This factory
image of the MGTD was probably shot for publicity purposes. Note that this car
now sports slotted wheels. While the image is in black and white the car was
most likely painted ivory. This car is also a left hand drive car destined for
the export market.
This is an extremely rare
photograph of a US Army Sergeant collecting the 2000th MG in the UK in
1952.
