Our February Pub Run commenced at the Sparrowhawk, where three Bs, an F and a ZR met on a cold damp morning. The run was led by Irv and the foolhardy - that Dave G and Irv - had their hoods down. Irv led us through Barrowford and over Lothersdale to the outskirts of Skipton. The weather was absolutely foul, but the hoods stayed down as the snow began to fall. We then headed north through Gargrave and then onto the road to Malham. In Airton we headed west to Settle, a point where I peeled off the back and stopped for fuel. Despite flashing lights no-one saw me stop, so a few minutes later Dave returned moaning about hurrying up, as the sleet and snow was now falling faster and harder. What did I care, I'd closed my sunroof! From Settle Irv took us over Halton Gill and then down through Arncliffe to Kilnsey and Threshfield. By now we were fast approaching Cracoe and our pub stop at the Devonshire Arms. And then within a mile of the pub disaster struck. Dave suddenly stopped on a hill, on a corner, on the quite busy B6265 and in a very sleety downpour. Irv dashed to his aide, although those with sense decided there was little they could do, apart from sitting in their warm cars until the problem was rectified. After a while, Gail suggested we simply leave them and head off to the pub - what a good idea! We didn't need asking twice, so Eric, Sheila and I arrived at the pub, settled down beside the roaring log fire, enjoyed a drink and studied the excellent menu. Just as we were about to order, a white B arrived towing a yellow B, with another white BGT not far behind. Apparently is was another fueld problem, akin to the one that struck Dave on the New Year bash weekend. We didn't let it dampen our spirits, we enjoyed the tasty food and good beer. Then we left Dave, miles from home, with the snow falling every now and again. Irv volunteered to stay and ensure the recovery truck arrived and the rest of us left them to it. We all headed our own ways and Gail & Julie were no doubt pleased that my F had been changed to a ZR, otherwise they'd have been waiting as well! Excellent run, shame about the weather, great pub with good food. Thanks to Dave for the entertainment - hope you were rescued and made it back safely. At least it gives me something to write about.
