Sunday Run - 1st June 2003 After much confusion and contradiction messages in the magazine and on the web: is it a 10 or 11 o’clock start, is it a long or a short or normal run John H (of Daisy fame) decided it was going to be an early start: 10am for a longish run (approx. 130m). The other John H (the “as of yesterday retired one”) did his duty as chairman and phoned everyone to inform them. So Sunday morning saw 9 MGs gathering at 10am in the Sparrow Hawk car park. After Irv and Gail managed to get to us, following Boy Scout processions, tractors, hay wagons and all other sort of slow vehicles we were briefed for the day’s events by John. He can’t help it, but he does sound like a Head Master (and he happens to be one) and to be honest, most of our members can behave like 7-year olds. We then set off through Barrowford, Gisburn and Cracoe to Hellifield, where a quick stop was made. Most of us dashed into the toilets, and as there was nowhere to park really we progressed to Richmond. The weather couldn’t have been better, as it was sunny and warm! Unfortunately the lovely, little café promised by John happened to have closed last year, due to Food and Mouth, so on we went for Richmond where we stopped for a lunch break. We decided to split up, as no one knew an establishment big enough to accommodate us all. Some of us headed straight for the Pub, as where others contented themselves with fish and chips. After our rest we headed of again, leaving the traffic warden in a bad mood (because we had all paid!) and setting off car alarms! Following some very nice roads we came to Hawes, where we made a short stop for further refreshments and the obligatory cheese tasting and buying (I personally cannot resist either). As some people needed to get home we split up and headed home individually, which we managed to make dry and -nearly- sunny. Thanks to John and Daisy for an excellent planned run. Jose - 10 June 2003
