Tool Roll News Update

The reproduction Z Tool Rolls are now totally sold out. If you have not already reserved one it is sadly too late.  As indicated earlier, I will not be remanufacturing any at all.  However, for those interested to check out the research and what they should look like, I have kept the rest of the page intact.

For those of you who are not sure, here are some pictures and some history.
The first and second pictures are of the back, and front of a ZA tool roll.
This particular example was supplied to me by Lou Shorten and came with her Magnette YPG 136 and hence is verified as totally original.

The next two pictures are of a tool roll I pulled from a very original ZBV. Note the similarities, they are exactly the same. This particular car formerly belonged to a very enthusiastic Z owner. The garage in itself was a veritable Aladdin’s cave!

As with all, they clearly show, a) the material as being bitumen over hessian, and that the layout, size and proportions were identical to the preceding Y (A and B) Type tool roll, although they were made from canvas.

The left picture I was sent by Warren Marsh – again, note the design – identical. This was John Mee’s tool roll and although incomplete (missing the grease gun amongst other bits) does give you an idea of what you are looking for at autojumbles!

On the right is a photo of my reproduction tool roll with my tools that I have collected over the past 24 months. I have tried to place them as they would have been when supplied new although the order is arbitrary! Please note that I am not supplying new or second hand tools here! That is your delight to come. If you need a list of what to get, send me an email too and I will return it to you. If you have an Operations Manual, or a Workshop Manual the list can be found in there.

Here are some photos of the tool roll without the tools in so that you can compare it to the originals shown on this page.

Finally, as some Z owners have been asking for them, here are some pictures of a ZA (left) and ZB (right) jack (although some late ZAs had the central jacking point – they would obviously also have had the appropriate jack in the boot (trunk).

I hope this has been enlightening for you and has provided information to you on what is a genuine Magnette tool roll. This was only ever a limited run, and now these are gone.  Given the scarcity of the raw material (I had to import it from Australia), there will be no more, at least not made by me!
