Anti-Roll Bar on Magnettes(amer.:sway bar) A few weeks ago Günter put me in contact with the owner of the car of the month , (the red May Magnette) for an inquiry on sway bars for a Magnette. He then gave me the name of an outfit in Australia ( K-Mac in Sydney, Australia ) and I subsequently placed my order (on line due to the time differences) and received the sway bar, and have it installed. the price is quite reasonable; US$185. This is a very nice addition to the already good handling of the Magnette, without affecting the ride at all that I can tell. The bar can be installed in about an hour, with only 3 wrenches needed, and it fits and doesn't hit anywhere else or foul other suspension parts. Kevin of K-Mac is most helpful and a pleasure to do business with. If anyone else wants to try this handling upgrade, I would certainly recommend the units from K-Mac. They have a web page, just put K-Mac in your search page. The price is reasonable and the delivery was prompt...what else could you want.
I've done numerous drives already, had the bar on for 2 weeks now. I've
run my favorite winding road several times, checked everything for
tightness, and clearance from other suspension parts, (no rubbing any where)
and I am very favorably impressed.
As expected the car just corners nice and flat, and now goes around turns
with a bit less apparent drama. I've even been out to the community center
parking lot for some simulated autotest type work around the light poles,
and the change is very much apparent. I think now it would be very difficult
to do the male dog imitation..lifting the rear leg, Wheel, under hard
cornering.
The sway bar does not seem to increase the balance (under steer or over
steer) but I haven't pushed it that hard at higher speeds yet.
I also notice an increased resistance to cross wind influence at hiway
speeds. Overall it's a good piece.
Anyone calling down under to talk to K-Mac should talk to Kevin. He's the
one I worked with on this project. |
