Suspension upgrade after the trial...
We have just finalized first trials with the new Magnette suspension and are
confident that that we have substantially improved the off-road performance (the
car will probably break some other component but not in there...).
I enclose pictures of the front and two side views of the car, where the present
improved ground clearance is clearly visible.
We fitted 4 off-road Ohlins dampers with remote reservoirs and featuring
compression and rebound adjusters.
In this first message I enclose pictures of the very simple rear arrangement
where the new shocks just replaced the original ones (we even kept the original
springs just for looks...). Please note that we also have inverted lower mounts
(but this was already done last year). Also note that the ground clearance can
be increased still further: the upper mount detail picture clearly shows the two
dented wheels on the shock outside thread so that the overall length can be
further adjusted.
The next mail message in the very near future (as soon as I can get and process
the other pictures) will detail the front arrangement. This required much more
elaborate changes, including a new top tower and a new lower suspension arm,
which were both designed using finite elements stress analysis. The changes in
the steering geometry required adjustments in both camber and toe-in.
If you need any additional information let me know.
Pictures from the front suspension. All bushes are now in PU.
