KA C 43 20737 ebay 10/2005: The story I got when I bought this Magnette at auction was that it had belonged to a U.S. Airforce officer stationed in England and he brought it back with him. It's a left hand drive. I hope someone can use it at least for parts I cant stand to see any old or historic car go to the crusher
KA     20751 South Africa I have recently acquired this Magnette and in the process of rebuilding her with engine (MGB 1800 conversion). See photos before I started to strip

KA PC 13 21141 We know nothing of this car other than the information yielded by its original RF60 log-book that a member spotted on e-bay in 2009. It was a home market Ivory/Autumn Gold Varitone supplied to its first owner in Sidmouth, Devon, UK on 25th March 1957. The last recorded change was to its fourth owner on 1st January 1972 when the car was still in Devon, though it had spent time with its second owner across the border in Somerset. It has never previously been known to the Register, which suggests that the log-book may be all that has survived. If you know anything more, please tell the Register.

KA BJ 43 21386 This picture shows my Grandfather with the ZBV Magnette in 1967, for an unknown reason he painted the whole car black. It has been in dry storage since the mid 70's and I am proud to begin the process of returning her not only to driving status but giving her back her original Birch over Twilight Grey exterior with Maroon interior.

KA PC 43 21707 This car underwent a 20+ year restoration saga. It was a real mess when Harry Watson from Vancouver found it and he is to be credited for 'saving' what most would have sent to the crusher. Very nice looking car now in the hands of Steve Kaufman, Canada
KA BJ 33 21776 Christian Loosli bought this Magnette from a family in Switzerland which held the car for the last 20 years. Car recoloured to a ivory-yellow (top) with brownish-red (bottom)
KA BA 13 21789 My Magnette. Its running well and my wife, Netti, and I have been discussing the new paint scheme - I think we are going to stick quite closely to the original Varitone options, but will go for ivory (upper) and autumn red (lower) to match the  red leather seats and the new red carpet this is currently on order.

KA J 3 22005 The Cornish Magnette Hunter Gobby from Cornwall found this Magnette for sale at a classic car dealer down in the darkest depths of west Cornwall. It looked complete but not sure as there were so many bits inside the car and the boot.
KA BJ 13 22026 This car was originally shown in the register in 2005 when, in an apparently semi restored state, it was advertised on ebay. I bought it 5 years later on ebay from a broker near Liverpool. In the intervening years someone had done a lot of work on it and it presented and ran well. The registration documentation said it had its original 1500 cc engine but in fact it was fitted with a gold exchange 1622 engine. I drove it from Liverpool to Paris without problem. The problems came a few months later: the motor exploded without warning and a loud bang while dawdling down a French country lane, ruining a summer evening out.
It is now fitted with an MGB1800 5 br engine and 5 speed gear box (thanks to Chris Betson at Octarine Services). It cruises beautifully and lives peacefully in semi retirement in Normandy .. .venturing out for the occasional rally ( this was the Rallye de Fougères in Normandy, May 2011) Ron Mc Innes

KA A 23 22262 Car was originally black and exported when new in 1957 and registered as PF596. Returned to UK in 1960 and registered as XYX163. Used for historic rallying in the 1970's. Very heavily modified, MGB 1800 engine and gearbox with O/D. MGB front disc brakes, Avenger (we think) independent rear susspension, wide wheels, MGB master cylinders, Jag seats, race harnesses etc Just been put back on the road (2010) and will be used for historic rallying. Now painted in MG works colours of red with white roof. Subject of Popular Classics article in November 1992 "Preservation Order"

KA A 43 22413 We've had this car for forty years and hate to part with it, but must do so. It is in Granby, Connecticut.  It is in tough shape now, having been stored for so long, but I'll bet that engine will still run. The rest may be only good for parts in the long run, but that depends on the eye and skills of the beholder. I hate to part it out, but may do so next month if there is no interest in it. Shudder at the thought- I have many happy memories of this auto. For more details, please contact me at rduggan@hawaii.rr.com - Richhard Duggan
KA     22456   I have just startedrestoring my Magnette bodyshell. having had various repairs over the last 30 years I decided to start with a clean sheet of paper and had the shell stripped and dipped at Surface Processing Ltd in Dudley. They advertise in most of the classic mags. The result is interesting as all paint, filler, underseal and unfortunately lead is removed. The clean bare steel looks at first glance as if it has been galvanised, but in fact is coated with soluble oil to protect the bare steel while welding is completed. My shell has now revealed all its secrets. So you can guess the list - chassis sides and sills, lower rear wings- lots to do before a return visit to SPL for the E- primer, electrically charged, fully immersed and then oven baked. A system now used throughout the motor industry. Further reports to come as I make progress. John Beesley,

KA E 34 22519 The car was rebiult 15 years ago and is still in good condition. The engine is still original. Runs reliably on the MG-meetings. Last winter I changed the diff. from 4,875 to 4,3. KA BA 43 22704 Maroon and Black Varitone paint. Was in Colorado in the early 1970s and then stored in a Minnesota barn until July 2006. Needs extensive restoration work. Now belongs to John Gunnell, a car collector, automotive writer, historian and editor.
KA RG 13 22705 A very sad looking car that was advertised to give away for free but probably is scrapped now...
KA BB 33 22720 The car has got three previous owners  and has not been in traffic since 1976. I bought it in 1996 and I'm rrestoring it (slowly) since then. The car was in a very bad shape but almost complete, the only thing done with it in the past was a respray in a different color in the early 70`s.
It's finally time to update the info on my car, that has been under restoration for the past thirteen years. I'm now happy to tell you that the car is out on the road again for the first time since 1976. The engine has been replaced to an 1800 cc Morris MarinaTC engine since the original engine gave up it's breath during the first test run this year. A sudden short loss of oil pressure and all that work was for nothing...Also fitted with some nice 17" wheels...

KA T 23 23938 This Magnette started life as a  Premier Motors showroom/demonstrator car in 'island green in  September 1957 until it was sold a year later.I bought the car in 1971 for AU$ 60.00 (!) with  99,900 miles on the clock and rusty sills& trunk floor and a holed no.4 piston.
I restored it from 1971 - 1974 fitting a 5 bearing MGB motor, ported head, 25/65 cam & fully balanced with extractor and 4.3:1 MGA diff, stainless steel brake cylinder sleeves,5.5" wide wheel rims etc. Painted it metallic gunmetal grey and used it as regular every day transport right up to 2004 (30years) including many long trips (one to Tasmania) - still hack it 2-4 days a week. Have replaced all wearing parts at least once ...except diff which is untouched in that time. Fitted brake booster in 1986 & stripped to bare metal & painted 2 pack 'vintage red' in 1989. In 1997, I decided to join Historic Racing car club & explore its potential, lowered 40mm & fitted front 22 mm dia. anti sway bar, with adjustable Pedders shocks, with side exit sports exhaust (sounds fantastic). Have competed each year since then, in at least 15 sprint/hillclimb/track regularity events, placing in class 95% of time, and having great fun, the car is extremely reliable and has turned 6000rpm in top (102mph)- standing 1/4 mile=18sec. Handles very well if a bit heavy, fitted Yokohama 'Advanx' R032 race tyres last year & improved all times 5/6%, but cracked 2 wheels, so have recently fitted 6" wide 'Superlite' cast alloy wheels (look great). Still love the look of the classic ZB Magnette even after 35 years and the sons will inherit it!

KA PC 13 25246 RHD Varitone scrapped by webmaster during winter 96/97. I bought this car without engine/gearbox. They were needed for a TVR. But there were quite a lot of things I could use. The body still survived without it's chassis number.

KA TE 13 25555 Restored in 1994 by previous owner. I bought it 30.01.2001.
In 2002, the 1500 engine broke its crank, so I fitted an MGB 1800 engine with a stage 1 head, and 3.9 diff. The standard drum brakes cope perfectly well. I am just about to fit Jaguar XK6 front seats, as I find the originals very uncomfortable.

KA A 23 25599 Originally purchased by S G Bocking from Lankester Engineering, Eden Street Kingston on Thames (BMC Dealership) in June 1957 new. Now belonging to John Hastie, Melbourne, AUS
KA A 13 25603 ebay 03/2005:
Twenty four years of disused have obviously taken their toll on the car. The car can only be described as needing complete restoration. The body has had only minimal repairs in the past so you will be dealing with "original rust" in most places.
KA C 23 25640 New Zealand A right-hand drive export model, originally dark red, and manufactured in 1957.
The car was first registered in May 1958 to Dominion Motors Ltd in Wellington, then in December 1958 to Mutual Rental cars Ltd, also in Wellington. From 1960, the car had 5 owners including the current owner s family, and at some stage was re-painted white. The car suffered an engine problem in about 1995, and was driven into this barn on the eastern outskirts of Auckland, where it has remained ever since. The interior is in surprisingly good condition, but the outer body and paintwork has clearly suffered. Limited space prevented a closer examination of the underside, but the car definitely looks restorable. Let s hope a motivated buyer can be found !

It has had no modifications carried out but lots of restorative and maintainance work done on it in the past 50 years.

KA T 23 26360 After a 25-year rest, my ZB  is now back on the road as well. A 2-year restoration was finished just in time to take my daughter to her wedding - as it took her mother to her wedding 34 years ago. We even had the same driver! We're looking forward to the MG Car Club midweek run next week so that we can have the first open-road run for a quarter of a century. With a tweaked 5-bearing engine and the original gearing hills are definitely not a problem!

KA T 43 26668 My dad and I bought this car with intent to use it for endurance rallies and long distance driving. It had been fitted with a 3-main 1800 engine and 3.9 rear end by a previous owner, and I added disc brakes and headers. Unfortunately after one season of driving and two endurance rallies, the car has been retired. At some point in its life it suffered major structural damage due to rust, and it had been poorly repaired and covered up. It may someday see the road again, but not soon. Mark Michalak, Chicago, USA

KA A 43 26866 Parts car purchased for $200 US several years ago. This one helps to keep the other two ZBs running. However, upon removing the engine and transmission recently, I determined that this car is salvageable. Allen Bachelder, New Castle, Virginia, USA.
KA J 13 26898 I was going to wait until my restoration was finished before sending you the photo - however I may not be capable of typing by the time that's done. I have had the engine rebuilt (Oselli). The interior re-upholstered, carpets and headlinings etc. with compliments to Lou Shorten. The car is down to bare metal with a lot of welding still needed. The photo is from the day I rescued it from the Ibiza woods. The car was built 25.-27.11.1957. Originally Twilight Grey with maroon interior. -Brian Pollard, Spain-

KA J 23 27070   My MG was purchased from Lanes dealership in Melbourne (Date unknown).I understand it was kept by the same owner and was last regitered in 1978. It was garaged for twenty years after the death of the original owner in Warrnambool Victoria. The relatives offered it to the person I purchased the car from because of his love for restoring MG's. The previous owner to me didn't get around to working on the car and it is not running nor has much been worked on since 1978.I have started to look over the car and plan to get the car back on the road over the next couple of years. The car is standard and nearly complete minus the heater unit, washer bottle and under dash parcel shelf. From looking at the fantastic restorations by other register users I can't wait to get her back on the road and take her for a spin around the beautiful Yarra Valley where I live.   .Ian Shipton,Victoria, Australia
KA TE 23 27093 Purchased in 1981 while looking for a parts car. Its {it was a very rusty parts car} fate was different although the restoration took me 10years. Originally supplied by P&R Williams of Sydney as a two tone green car, it has been repainted in {non original} English mist over Executive grey. The picture was taken at Barwon Heads [ Victoria Australia]. Troop of Royal Marines forms part of a pedestrian crossing {last is a native recruit?} to a park in the holiday resort of Barwon Heads. KA LA 23 27109 Maggie has been in my family since my Grandfather purchased and imported her to Australia in March 1959 through Howards in Cairns. She remained with him until his death in 1974 when my mother obtained ownership of the car. She drove Maggie until the late 1990's when my husband and I took over ownership. Our daughters drove the car, making it 4 generations of us who drove her to work. Maggie has been used for many weddings including ours and our daughters (1978 and 2002). Maggie is still in original condition and has never been unregistered having been in constant use for almost 50 yrs. Maggie is a much loved part of the family.

KA A 43 27205 This car was for sale on ebay in Holtsville, NY, United States. The buyer wrote:
It  has the original paint and interior and looks to be an original car. It is rotten beyond repair. It seems as if someone really loved this car and I wonder what happend to it and why it so far gone. I was glad to save it to make sure that the parts get to those who need it to keep their's going. I've never seen a Magnette before and really am impressed at how regal they look in side. Rear arm rest between the seats and a clock above the mirror. Neat traficators and the knobs and switches for the heater are really cool. Now that I have seen this one I'd be interested in finding one without so much rust to add to my collection.

KA C 13 27223 Here is a photo of Don Lord's ZB. The year is 1958. It lives here in Whitley Bay in the North East of England. It is twilight grey and has several improvements. A 5 speed gearbox and 1800 engine have been fitted. Also it has had a polarity change to enable an alternator to be fitted. As you can see from the picture it is used at ever weather condition.
KA C 43 27236 This car belongs to Brian Warmuth in USA. It is going to a basically a "to-factory-stock" restoration. There was absolutly no rust throughs in the body at all. So I have not had to replace any metal ...it's all factory panels throughout. The car came from california and had been stored for about 20 years when I bought it 4 years ago.Never sen road salt and I plan to keep it that way. I want this car to be even more of a survivor than it already is.

KA C 43 27257 The car was in a no-name storm in about 1986 in Florida and it was in a very bad condition when I bought it. It is now a Pro-Street car with a 1995 Ford V6 engine, but I ahve retained the stock body lines and chrome as it was in 1958. Read more...
