Steve Wagoner's Magnette is a home market (RHD) car
and in very solid shape with a nice interior. It hasn't been run in around
15 years. It was brought over here 15 years ago by the previous owner and
then he got involved in a divorce- the car sat until he purchased it 3
years ago. It still has its original
registration YPL416. |

I restored this Magnette in 1999. Including me, the car has had only three
owners and lives in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham, England.
Registration number is MBL 450 and people tell me that they have seen this number in books but of
course cannot remember which book! I have seen MBL numbers on works MGA rally cars and
Magnettes used as press demonstrators, perhaps someone could help with the early history of this car.

I bought it three years ago in boxes - two previous owners had disassembled it

rebuilt the brakes and converted it with the help of the Hints and Tips section to

I have been a register
member since June 1982 when I bought this Twilight Grey ZA from the original
owner. Now I have owned the car longer than he did and added a few small
adventures. The car was registered in Gosport where I bought it and has
resided in the Worthing area since then. Restoration work was done by the
Shortens in the late 80s and has served over the years both as family
transport and of the focus of summer outings when our sons were small. In
the 90s the car was seen regularly at register events when I served as first
competition secretary then chair of the register. Her last overseas trip was
to the Champagne region for our 25thanniversary, and we have added 10 more
years of very little use since then! She doesn t get out much these days,
but she makes a once a year pilgrimage to the Goodwood Revival in September,
surely the biggest period fancy dress party in the world. The picture is

The car was first registred in Basel, Switzerland, on October 1st, 1956
as a RHD export version. During the fifties it was not unusual to drive
RHD cars in Switzerland. The car always remained in Switzerland, having
a extensive restauration in the early eighties. Since then the various

the intention of exporting back to the US. I purchased the car from the

Purchased by me in June 2005 after being restored and put back on the road.
It was resprayed black, from green. I have a list of previous keepers (9).
It started life in Lincoln before moving to the Wrexham area, then Stafford. |

I've attached photos of
the Magnette, as it sat behind Don Peery's shop, the day Don and I hauled it
to over to my house. As you can see it's not in the best of shape but
hopefully I can find enough body panels and advise here and there to make it
right again.

I acquired the car in January 2005 from a gentlemen who rescued it from certain destruction.
It has undergone restoration to the body as well as a rebuilt engine and transmission. It appears to have
spent its entire life in very dry climate of the southwest US so rust was at a minimum. I plan to
continue his efforts to bring the car back to as original condition as possible. The car is used daily
and is responding very well to continuous use.

Here is our ZB magnette acquired 1997. Looks tidy in the body really needs a smarten up.

I have
attached a picture of the car taken at Portishead near Bristol. The car is
unrestored although it has had a respray at some time in its life, probably
more than 25 years ago. It still runs well, oil pressure is good and is
currently having a new exhaust system fitted.
