Z Magnette Day 2009
On last weekend in June Magnettes traditionally meet in Germany (or nearby
countries) for the Magnette Day. The 13th edition took place in the Bergisches
Land, where we all stayed in a lovely housing area. So no transfer to the
hotel was necessary and you could have one or two more beer.
Friday was the typicall arrival day, with Magnettes and passengers arrivng from
different directions and countries. The ten cars came from England, Luxembourg,
the Netherlands and Germany. Áll together 20 adults wth no less than 11 children
of all ages! Who's saying the MGCC is a club of old white-haired retired
persons?
The weather was kind to us and we could sit outside 'till late night, to
exchange the latest news since last year.
On saturday a scenic route directed the participants to the Drachenfels
(Drakenmountain) on the Rhine. Depending on age and constitution they choose to
hike or took the coq train to reach the top at 321 metres. Later on we had a
good view from the river Rhine during a boat trip on a especially for our group
chartered boat. As it became very hot we all enjoyed the trip with some cool
drinks.
Later in the evening it was time for the BBQ. No Magnette Day without it! Was it
luck or bad luck? Shortly after the latest steak and Bratwurst were
grilled it started to rain and instaed of sitting around a bonfire we had to sit
inside. But perhaps that was the karma as it was the 13th edition.
But it can't have been too bad inside othertwise it wouldn't have lasted until 2
o'clock in the night.
Therefore the sunday drive was just 15 minutes to a nearby water reservoir damn,
where we had a guided tour, before we enterd a Thai restaurant clode by.
Here it was time to present the ray Cain trophy, that is given to somebody every
year. There is no fixed rule. In the past it was presented to people, who
brought their freshly restored car, or young families, as well as elderly
people, who don't care of the distance.
This year the decision ws made to present it to Malcom & Lis Eades. Both are
regular attendees from the first event in 1997!
