For the 9th time a number Magnettes and their owners from across Europe
assembled for a weekend well known for BBQ and bonfire in a relaxed atmosphere.
The mixture of the event with a lot of time to talk and a bit of scenic
drive seems to attract more and more people: After some cancelations in last
minute and some owners using their modern vehicles due to failure of the M.G.
still 14
Magnettes arrived in the small village Heinsberg in the Sauerland.
Friday:
The Friday afternoon was very hot with 30 + degrees Celsius. But I haven't
heard of any Magnette suffering with overheating on the long journeys (up tp 600+ miles trips). So the crews from
Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Sweden and different directions in Germany arrived
thirsty in Heinsberg. We helped with some cold
drinks while sitting in the shade and welcoming the parties. It was good to see
old friends again and make new ones as well. Sometimes it was putting a face to
an email-address.
After a simple dinner everybody was invigorated again and we enjoyed a warm summer night
sitting outside with more cold
drinks...
Saturday:
After only 5 hours sleep I had to get up again. Perhaps it was a mistake to be one of
the last to go to bed yesterday? But a good breakfast with coffee brought back
live into my body. And it seemed the others were well, too. By 9.30 am we left
for a scenic tour around the Sauerland to a mine museum in Ramsbeck. A small
train brought us 2 kms into the hill and 400 mtrs. below the surface.
Although we hadn't to digg the signs of hunger were noticeable. A nearby cafe
provided us with some delicious soup. Unfortunalety the weather had changed
while we were in the mine and a thunderstorm forced us to sit inside.
Nevertheless we started with the children's competition and all the kiddies enjoyed
it and gave their best.
Lunch finished meant we should leave the location and arrive for tea at
another place. The tour went on, climbing up to 800 m. above sealeavel. So it
wasn't very wondering that we stopped at a "Skihütte". Meanwhile the
sun was back again and we sat outside having some homemade cakes or
Apfelstrudel. While the adults relaxed part II of the children's competion
started. Just in time the rain started as well again and we hasted in our cars
to return to the Rucksackherberge.
There the preparations for the BBQ already had started... and rain stopped.
The BBQ is not the highlight of the event or something special, but it is what
the event originally started with. It's a great atmosphere sitting around a fire
and talk to friends you only met once a year.
Later the evening we had some pricegiving. Looking at the pictures it seemed
people were more enjoying to hug my wife than to get the prizes!
Especially the children had glamoured eyes when they found out that everyone got
some small prizes.
