MGA Days

... in the South West (of England!)

25th May 2003

The first event that I have organised since taking on the position as South West Representative of the MGA Register centred around the Royal Navy Museum at Yeovilton in Somerset on 25th May where we were given an excellent reception by the staff. Unfortunately, only 5 cars turned up but it is the first event and I hope the word will get around! After the museum visit, we drove in convoy to the Price of Wales Inn at Ham Hill, about 5 miles away, for lunch which ended about 4 pm. During this time many stories were told of restorations and alike together with suggestions for further meetings, the next of which will be in September. The pictures are taken at RNAS Yeovilton.

South West Area MGA Meeting

 21st September 2003

This event was the second meeting to be held in the South West following the establishment of a South West Area representative for the MGA Register. The event took place on the National Trust property at Killerton House just outside Exeter: the location is beautiful with a ‘small’ manor house set half way up a hill surrounded by wonderful gardens and the glorious Devon countryside.
A total of eight cars arrived on the day whilst another five set out but for various reasons were unable to complete the journey which was very sad for all concerned. However the owners of these cars were not to be outdone and, having returned their stricken vehicles to the safety of their respective garages, the owners made their way to the meeting in everyday cars. This effort really helped to make the day a great success and was very much appreciated. Other MGA owners also made the effort to turn up in modern transport because their cars were in the middle of rebuilds. So, all in all, a total of 17 MGA owners arrived to join in a wonderful day and glorious weather and all enjoyed the excellent hospitality of the staff at Killerton House.
Amongst those arriving was Vic Ellis who brought along his racing roadster and chatted to everyone giving helpful advice and recounting tales of his racing days. It was good to see Vic and one of his cars in such fine fettle.
Next year I hope to see more cars make it to the start line!
