Over the weekend of 12 to 14 September, the MGA Register members gave their support to the Lincolnshire Centre event. 6 cars took part in the Saturday Tours and a further 3 joined for the Sunday show at the Bainland Park venue. Included in the group were Chairman George Dutton and Treasurer Mervyn Gillespie.
The weekend was based in the charming town of Woodhall Spa, wartime home to many Royal Air force personnel, now better known for its golf course. There were a variety of routes on offer for Saturday, George and Stella opted for the "Wind and watermills tour". This gave us the opportunity to spend a warm sunny day driving on minor, traffic free roads, plus an hour on foot in Horncastle searching for bargains in the many antique shops. We also discovered that Lincolnshire is not completely flat! The route took us through the rolling Wolds countryside.
Saturday’s tours ended with a photo shoot for all the cars at the Royal Air force Heritage Centre, East Kirkby. Look out for the official picture in "Safety Fast" but in the meantime some pictures of the Avro Lancaster and the MG Club members are attached.
We gave the Saturday night disco a miss on the grounds that Mervyn had to look after his dog, although in reality is was the drivers and navigators who were "dog tired" after a day in the fresh air and sunshine.
Motor tours were again on offer for Sunday, but we opted for a short walk around Woodhall Spa, then pack the cars and off to the "Pride of Ownership" display. 6 MGAs were on show out of a total of about 60 cars. The winner was Peter Gamble’s Iris Blue roadster. Prizes were presented at 3 o’clock followed by thanks all round for an excellent weekend.
