The Annual MG Gathering at Brooklands,
Surrey, UK took place on Sunday 6th April 2003 organised by the
Brooklands Museum. All the major MG Clubs in the UK were invited and all types
of MGs welcomed: driving tests and a gymnkana were organised by the SE Centre of
the MGCC and the test hill was also used. A number of traders were also present.
The weather, which had been much warmer than is usual for the time of year in
the preceding days, was overcast and cold with many people in heavy clothing.
A total of about 40 MGAs arrived during the morning of which 9 were Twin Cams and there was 1 De Luxe car: the cars were parked in a self contained group as were the other models around Brooklands with the oldest cars, Vintage and MMMs being accorded pride of place in front of the Clubhouse. In all I would guess that about 300 MGs were parked around the complex.
Amongst the MGAs present were the ex Gordon Cobban/Wilson McComb roadster VPO 320 now owned by David Keeling (see photo) and the Brian Purves Coupe which he rallies: also present were 6 members of the Register Committee in a variety of pushrod and twin cam cars. The opportunity was taken to sell regalia during the lunch period and many technical and historical queries were answered by the committee members throughout the day.
Brooklands has a history not only associated with cars but also with aircraft and significant displays of both ensured that there was plenty to see during the day apart from MGs.
The previous day saw a Track Day take
place on the runway at Brooklands, again organised by the SE Centre of the MGCC,
where over 40 cars entered of which 5 were MGAs and included UPO 929, the ex
Fitzwilliam Team car now owned by Jon Hall.
