Natter Leader, Simon was busy with his camera at the Wishing Well Quiz on 14 September . . .

A great time was had by all and the results were as follows:

1st Prize - Robin & Elaine Pearson, wine and chocolates
2nd Prize - Barry & Marion Green, T-Shirt
3rd (booby) Prize - Ian Stevenson, polishing cloths.
The prizes were donated by the Wishing Well and Rob & Julia.

Visit to Bourne Heritage

Steve Hall arranged the very interesting visit on the June Natter Night which was enjoyed by all. A wander around the Museum followed by a short film about Raymond Mays and the numerous cars he drove introduced us to motor racing history many were unaware of.
A great evening enjoyed by all. Thank you Steve.

The councillors' photographs on the staircase wall would have been consigned to the "bin" if they hadn't been rescued by Bourne Heritage . . .
Steve, Warwick & Doug discuss the film show and exhibits.

Do you have any used stamps?

We all get some stamped mail and probably don't realise those used stamps could help a charity to raise much needed funds . . .
So, please save your used stamps and bring them to the Wishing Well Natter on the 2nd Wednesday at Dyke. John Taylor will be very grateful for any you can pass onto him for the charity he supports.
Thank you.

Mike Garton Talk

Simon Temple sent us the photo (above) of Steve Hall (right) presenting Mike Garton with some flowers to say Thank You at the end of the evening.
Simon told us,
"The talk was very interesting; Mike talked us through the cars he has raced and the people he has met along the way, as well as his time at Abingdon and the link he has with MGs. We heard lots of tales of modified Midgets and Bs and the trials and tribulations of keeping them on the track and in the race."

Wishing Well, Dyke, Charity Night on Wednesday 10 February

This special evening was hosted by John & Denise in aid of Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. John says . . .

"The Dyke meeting on 10 February included a slide show and talk on behalf of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, the only charity in the UK that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important everyday sounds and danger signals. The dogs (many of which are from rescue centres) alert the deaf person to the door bell, telephone, alarm clock, cooker timer etc, by making them aware of the sound and leading them to the source of the sound. If the sound is an alarm signal such as smoke alarm or fire alarm they alert the deaf person and indicate danger by dropping into a prone position NOT leading them to the sound. Hearing dogs enable the deaf person to live a more normal life and provide company and security in their everyday life. The charity does not receive any government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of supporters.

"On February the 10th the talk was given by John Mallindine, with his Hearing Dog 'Poppy' (above), and my good lady was there to support him with a sales table, where we encouraged those attending to part with some of their hard earned cash. MGCC Members can also help by saving used postage stamps, recycling their used inkjet cartridges (not Epson cartridges) and old mobile phones."

Scalextric Evening - Friday 17 April 2009
The cars are on the grid, the tension is mounting - weather conditions are set for a perfect race - fingers on the triggers - it's a red light, red light, red light, green light . . . go and the cars are off!.....

At the first corner every one is neck and neck, then the red car spins off the track, the yellow car takes advantage and zooms ahead, while the blue car slows into the bend. This is just a taste of the Scalextric track night that ten of us enjoyed in Spalding on Friday. The Spalding Scalextric Track venue has a total of eight tracks which are replicas of famous circuits - namely Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Catalunya, Cadwell Park, Donington Park, Raul Boesel, Hockenhiem and Anderstrop.
We were split into racing teams, given a health and safety briefing, instructed in the use of the race telemetry (each race track has a computer set up to time and count laps) and we were let loose to race.

If you had been lucky enough to own a Scalextric track as a child you may have had a slight advantage, but even the novices soon picked it up. After everyone had completed the first eight tracks, it was time for a pit stop with the home prepared buffet and chat about race tactics!
After the buffet, it was out of the pits and onto the final track to decide the overall race placings for everyone. As you will see from the photographs the winners were all hardened racers!!
In first place came Adam K (centre), second was James L (left) and third was Steve H.

Congratulations to the winners and the runners up!! - there is now an ongoing steward's enquiry as some cars seemed to have been tweaked during the pit stop and fitted with 'Jenson Button' F1 type spoilers! (only joking!!).
The cars we raced - sadly no MG's were available - were Minis, BMWs, Peugeots and Mercedes amongst others.
We think every one had an enjoyable evening and as promised there were no garage bills !

If you think this sounds like fun - book in for the next race meeting - Date to be announced - come along and have some fun!!!

Our thanks to Rob & Julia for organising a great evening!

We use The Churchill Room at The Wishing Well for our Natters. The room is on the left as you enter the Wishing Well; the bar is on the right.
