Point to Point Speed Devices
*The M1, M25 and M11 will be equipped with Point to Point speed devices from 1st August 2009*

Once you enter any of these three motorways, you pass a camera which takes a photograph of your car and registration number and records the exact time. Upon exit, another camera takes a photograph of your car and registration number, and records the exact time you leave the motorway.
The cameras are set at fixed points. With both the start time and the finish time, a computer is able to calculate the time it has taken for you to travel between the two fixed points, and works out your average speed and how many miles you may have travelled over the national speed limit. If you have completed the clocked journey too fast you will be given a speeding ticket.
At
the present time the national speed limit for motorways is 70 m.p.h.
For every minute that you drive over the speed limit you will incur a fine of
£30 and one point on your licence. The fines will be issued automatically
but the Ministry of Transport will be allowing a variance of 10% for 3 months,
which gives a top speed of 77 m.p.h. until the end of October 2009.
The Ministry of Transport will at a later date add cameras at all exit points along the motorways. Remember that now with the new legislation, fighting speed camera fines is almost impossible. You must prove the device is faulty and if you are not a technician working on them, you have no chance of beating the fine.

Two Part Driving Licence
When does your Driving Licence run out?
Like me, you probably thought that was something you needn't worry about until you're 70 years old?
Wrong! If you have a two part driving licence, the paper piece will show your date of birth + 70 Years - 1 day . . .
The pink card with your photograph on will show the date you applied for the two part licence + 10 years - 1 day!
The information detailing this knowledge is on the form used to apply for the two part licence. Surprisingly, people have been fined for not having an indate licence and have been shocked to find that it has run out before their 70th birthday. Some are now receiving letters telling them their licence is about to run out.
If
you have a pink card, take a look at 4b; that is the date the licence runs out.
Two new signed photographs, a completed form and £20 payment are required
to renew the licence.
See below for the part of the form showing the possible fine!

If you have the old style licence, you'll be fine until your 70th birthday; unless you apply for a new Two Part Licence, that is!!
Mobile Phones
How much is the fine for using a mobile when driving?
We've all seen people using their mobile while driving, some even send text messages while on the move!
The cost if caught is now £60 + 3 penalty points on the driving licence.
Motorists will also be prosecuted for using a hands-free phone if they are not in control of their vehicle.
The latest message from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership is "switch your mobile off once you're mobile".
