Also a superb performance from Simon Temple who only first had a go at the Practice Autotest in April and has already clocked up a 3rd in class and 1st Novice - a budding star in the making! One to watch we think . . .

There are some remarkable photos in the frames that follow especially when you take into account that this area of Lincolnshire has a Hose Pipe Ban imposed!!!
Geoff’s MGZTT & Joe’s VOLVO came to the rescue for the “Make Do and Mend” tent.
The heavy rain & hail stones brought the “House down”
Thanks to everyone involved in this event for turning out on such a horrid day. Special thanks to photographers Emma Kiteley Connon and Joe Connon.
MGF Yorkshire Drive Out to Whitby
by Dave Moir.

Sunday 15 th April 2012 saw the first drive-out event organised by the MGF Yorkshire Group. An invitation to attend was extended to members of the Lincolnshire Centre.
The Lincolnshire group met at the Humber Bridge car park and set off in bright sunshine to York via: South Cave and Market Weighton. Travelling round the York ring road we joined the A19 and after a few miles reached the Sidings Hotel at Shipton by Beningbrough, the starting point for the run.

After coffee we were each given a very comprehensive route book containing very detailed ‘Tulip diagrams’ and set off in bright sunshine for some ‘tops down’ driving through the Hambleton Hills past the White Horse hill figure at Kilburn and Rievaulx Abbey. Historical note: because the white horse figure is so prominent, during World War II it had to be camouflaged to prevent German pilots using it as a marker point for York.

Rievaulx Abbey . . .

The countryside was magnificent and the roads virtually deserted and after a good run up the Seph Valley we reached our next coffee stop at the Bay Horse, Great Broughton.

It was decided to put the tops up, which was just as well as the thunder clouds rolled in and torrential rain fell eventually turning to snow! After a long coffee break (to miss the worst of the weather) we set off across Kildale Moor, joined the A171 passing Scaling Reservoir and then down to the coast near Staithes.

By now the rain had stopped and as we reached Whitby the clouds cleared and the sun came out (although there was a very strong, cold wind blowing off the North Sea).

Our group parked at the North car park and we walked down into Whitby to treat ourselves to a fish and chip tea!

The (tops down) return route took us across Goathland Moor to Pickering where our plans to stop for puddings and a cup of tea were dashed as the café was closed!

We pressed on to the Country Park Inn at Hessle and were suitably refreshed.

In total our route covered some 200 miles, taking us through some very beautiful scenery and countryside – we also experienced four season’s worth of weather in one day (we will now call it the Vivaldi Run!). Our thanks go to the MGF Yorkshire group and in particular Michael and Hilary Ring for setting the route and preparing the very detailed route instructions. All in all a most enjoyable day.
Thanks also to the Lincolnshire members and to John and Yuliya Bromfield who travelled from Newark for the run.

MGB50 Celebrations got off to a great start with the MGB50 Birthday Run to Gaydon Heritage Motor Centre on Sunday 15 April 2012 . . .
Lincolnshire and Anglia Centre members gathered at the Haddon Orton Services Peterborough for a scenic route devised by Steve & Alison Kemp. This was a great start to the day despite the chilly wind.
We gathered at East Carlton Country Park, Corby, to get our Route Books, Rally Plaques and passes for Gaydon.
Steve & Lynne Hall's MGBGT
A lovely line up of MGBs and MGBGTs.
Arrival at Gaydon . . .
The Iris Blue MGB wasn't 'just a pretty car'; we were following her when there were roadworks at a crossroads preventing us following the route book . . .
Fortunately the occupants were locals who weaved their way through the lanes with us following!

Inter Marque/Natter Quiz

Organised by David & Veronica Stonehouse and Peter & Jean Ellis, the Inter Marque/Natter Quiz was so popular the Monks Room at the Abbey Lodge was full!

Various rounds, which bore no resemblance to their titles, created a fun atmosphere with all team members wondering exactly what was coming next.

Emma & her Abbey Lodge team provided the refreshments and all agreed it was an excellent night. Well organised and fun to be a part of.

The winning team were the Triumph Trumps TR Register.
We're all looking forward to the 2013 event!
Thank you David, Veronica, Peter & Jean.

A Great Start to the New Year!
New Year's Day Run including Landlord's Choice Pride of Ownership.
The New Year's Day Run traditionally starts from the Abbey Lodge at Kirkstead, just south of Woodhall Spa. The 2012 event was organised by Ian & Sue Mackenzie and ran like clockwork.
Members gathered from 11.30 a.m. for lunch, with some arriving around 2.00 p.m. just in time for the awarding of the Landlord's Choice rosettes. Chris and family had a difficult job with the judging - there were so many lovely MGs to choose from - and there was a tie for 3rd place . . .
Joint Third Place - Steve Wilkinson - MGA Coupe - receives his rosette from Chairman David Stonehouse.
Joint Third Place - Ian Parsons - MGF 160 Trophy - receives his rosette
Second Place - Andy Rake - MGBGT V8 - receives his rosette
First Place - John Rogers - MG L-type Magna - receives his rosette, a special Christmas paper wrapped surprice and a bottle of Abbey Lodge Wine
Landlord's Choice Winner, John Rogers, poses with his beautiful L type Magna.
The Social Drive left in two groups around 2.30 p.m. with Sue Mackenzie & Carol Welch in the lead MG, a MGZTCDTi, for group 1 and Ian Mackenzie & Bob Welch in a graphite MGF for group 2.
The route took us across countryside many have never seen before; travelling north through Woodhall Spa to Waddingworth, then west to Bardney and we even visited a place called "Wasp's Nest" - honest!
A winding route through Potterhanworth, north to Branston, Heighington and Washingborough, then west towards Lincoln. Finally, we arrived at Mill Lodge, Canwick, for hot tea and coffee and a good chat about everything from MGs to the forthcoming Dinner Dance on 21 January . . .
Special thanks to Ian & Sue and Bob & Carol for guiding us through the lanes, John Hebb & Sheila Laurence for the photographs and thanks to everyone who brought their MGs out to play on New Year's Day!
We are looking for organisers for the 2013 New Year's Day Run; would you like to take your fellow MG friends on a magical mystery tour on the 1st day of the year? If the answer is YES, please talk to a committee member or email us ASAP.
