5 speed gearbox, delivering power to all 4 wheels.

Number built: 205.
Developed by Williams Grand Prix Engineering to a specification by Patrick Head, the 6R4
was created to exploit the infamous Group B rules, giving over 400 bhp in 'works' trim and
250 bhp in Clubman spec. Initially using a Rover V8 engine shortened to V6, new heads and
blocks were made to create an entirely new engine.

In March 1983 the MG Maestro 1600 was born from project ADO99 (later called LM10) which was the
design project for the car to place the Allegro. Initially launched with the 1598cc R series
engine (a modified version of the E series fitted to the Maxi).
In July 1984 the 1600cc S series engine was introduced; these models were infamous for their
voice synthesized information and digital dashboard instrumentation.
In October 1984 the 2.0 EFi O series engine was fitted to the car and this engine stayed in
place until the end of production in 1991.

Numbers built: 500 production cars, 4 press cars (1 in each colour) and the original 1988
Birmingham Motor Show car, 505 in total.
In 1988 a modified MG Maestro 2.0i fitted with the Montego Turbo engine and a specially
designed Tickford body kit was shown at the British Motor Show. This was the first of 505 MG
Maestro Turbo's.
Released in 1989, it was the fastest accelerating production MG ever. And even today (2002) it
is only surpassed by the 3.9 litre V8 MG RV8. It's faster than the MG TF 160.
Of the 505 Maestro Turbo's made: 215 were Flame Red, 92 were White Diamond, 149 were British
Racing Green (metallic) and 49 were Black. Of these, roughly half are known to still
exist (2002).
