Brians Bit Steam Gala Going Dutch

Brians Bit
by the Cambridge & District MGOC Club Secretary

Christmas is nearly upon us, with only a few hectic shopping days before Christmas. The past 12 months have flown by once more, and all of a sudden its the end of another year, and what a year we have had at the Cambridge & District MGOC. A year full of fun and games, of classic car runs, of meeting up with old friends and past members too numerous to mention, and to top it all ( after getting out the calculator) our membership has increased by 35%.!!!! The clubs has continued to grow largely due to your committee, and a big vote of thanks should go to the outgoing members of that committee, who have worked so hard throughout the year. With so much going on in the club it makes it easy to report all our activities both in the area roundup in Enjoying MG Magazine, and on the internet, with our very web site, which Kelvin maintains. 400 a week people visit the Cambridge & District Web site. Kelvin hopes to bring his computer along to one of the meetings in 1998 to show you what he has been upto. Quite a few of you are now on the internet, and have already seen what is surely 'Simply the Best' MG Club Web Site In The World.

So, finally, may I wish you all a Merry Christmas and I hope Santa brings you something nice. I'm hoping that he will bring me a new full race engine for my most recent acquisition, a BGT, which I shall be racing in 1998...please come and cheer me on!

Our AGM may I remind you will be held, once more, at the Cambridge Motel, Shepreth, Nr. Royston, on January 19th 1998.

Steam Gala
The Rayners (Joyce & Robin)

The following report was received, at the clubs editorial office, (Kelvin's former dinning room actually!!) via email, from club members Robin & Joyce.

On Sunday the 17th Oct we went to the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Gala It is held at the renovated railway between Stow on the Wold and Tewkesbury. There are many attractions!!
The main one of course are the Steam locomotives and rolling stock at the station. Also there are Steam Traction engines and various steam driven vehicles with a large covered area for displays of working model railways and all sorts of handicraft stalls. There are small trains for the children to ride on and a merry go round. The tombola and white elephant stalls are all in aid of various charities.
The part that we liked the best -of course- was the classic car and motor bike section. With a real assortment of vehicles to drool over. The best part really was if you entered your classic car for display you got in free of charge and got a complementary ticket for a ride on the railway which also had a buffet car.
The glorious weather that weekend made this a wonderful day out for all the family and the people were so friendly. They have invited us back next year, along with any of the MG Owners Club that would like to go, although they don't guarantee the weather. Apparently what we missed by not going the day before was a ride on the train at night with lots of beers - shame. There is a field for camping overnight ,but I think the facilities are limited, There are also lots of B&B places nearby, but for the really posh there are great hotels in Stow and Tewkesbury.
This might be a good venue for us to think about for next year.
More details when the Co-ordinator Mr John Webb gets in touch with us next spring.
Any other MG clubs in the area want to join us?
Joyce and Robin

Jacqueline Deakin, has prepared some information, along with some proposals as to how we might spent our time, if you have not already had a copy, then do not worry I am sure an update will be published shortly.
Jacqueline has been in touch with some MG Owners Clubs in Holland, who are already looking forward to welcoming us to their country.
