| Rays Roundup | Gift Ideas! |
Hello once more from Cambridge. Not long now until Christmas, I hope you have all got your list ready for when you are asked "What do you want for Christmas" ? I know I have.
No MG parts of course, I just want an MGF and a few extras, like loads of cash to pay for those little essentials that one needs to go with ones new acquisition.
We have had some good runs recently. Two of our members Peter and Alf went on the
'Norwich MGOC Memorial Run'
Towards the end of September (Sunday 20th Sept) we had a short run to the village of Wicken, near Ely, where we met up with members of the Westfield Owners Club. The idea was to exchange rides in assorted sports cars. Some stomachs were deposited in the boots of the faster accelerating models!!
On one of our club nights more recently (Sept 21) about 20 of us drove out to Newmaket for an evening out at the Bowling Alley! This has proved to be a popular evenings entertainment in the past, and is a great social event for our members, the drive around the back streets of Newmarket in the MGs proved interesting too, with its one way system, taking you through parts of Newmaket you never knew existed!
The bowling was of a high standard, and some of the techniques were a little strange, with one person managing to bowl backwards!! But stranger still was the method used to recover the 'Pins'. Instead of the usual mechanical clatter of automated recovery, the pins were on strings, a little like puppets. My thanks to Robin and Joyce for organising it at such short notice.
Other recent gatherings include our 'Pool & Natter' evening held on October 5th which was a great success, the winners taking home a bottle of wine. The next happening was a 'Pop & Soap' quiz. I pesonally did rather badly at this, as it had absolutley no MG content at all! There were 5 teams of 4/5 people, with almost enough prizes to go around for everyone. It was great fun, thanks to Heather & Keith for arranging the quiz.
Well thats about it from me this month, see you all at our next meeting on the 2nd November at the Lion & Lamb. Dont forget that coming next mont on Dec 7th its 'Come dressed as your hobby' night, should be interesting, that too is at the Lion and Lamb. Then on December 12th its the Christamas Dinner/Disco at the Cambridge Motel, Shepreth. (Some Tickets Still Available)
It's all go when you are 'Simply the Best'

Above Ray mentioned the fact that Christmas is fast approaching. What will you be buying your loved one for Christmas this year? Well if your after a gift with an MG theme, then let me make a few suggestions!
MG Books
There are a great many MG titles on the shelves at the bookshop, but why venture out when you can order from the comfort of you own home. The book shown below is 'The MG Log'.
Jean Cook, Cecil Kimbers daughter advised at every stage of the books preperation. It also contains her own personal, and unique account, of how the MG was born.
This book is full of useful information and is well illustrated. It is a must for anyone who has ever owned an MG or even, ever dreamt of ever owning one!
MG Fine Art Prints
Real good quality prints, that you can frame and proudly display are hard to find. If you have a passion for MG and in particular the MGB GT V8, then you might be interested in this beautiful print, produced by artist Martin Houlden.
MG Videos
For those of you that like to keep your Video Library up todate then there are some new titles around this Christmas, including 'MGs Across America' which I recently reviewed. The review and details of how to order are

MG Calendar
Calendars always make popular gifts at Christmas time, and will last for at the very least, 12 months! You can get calendars in a wide assortment of titles, which include Planes, Boats, Trains and yes Cars. And even better MG cars! The calendar which is diplayed below, is of very high quality, both in content and production. It is produced in the UK by 'World of Discovery' who do have an online order facility on their own Website.

If you have trouble with the above site I am sure that further details of how to obtain one of these calendars will appear in all of the major MG Magazine publications in time for Christmas.
I hope my few suggestions, above, have given you a few ideas for Christmas gifts?
