Ray's Ramblings!

Rays Ramblings

Hello from a HOT Cambridge Weather Snapshot
On my want list for Christmas this year is an air-conditioned garage as I have been doing some servicing on the Midget and getting pretty hot in the process, not that I am moaning but the sweat tends to make things slip out of your hands, and I need no help in that department.

So what has our club been getting up to you may ask, well some went to Gaydon and enjoyed the trip and we would have been more in number had Camping been possible because some of our members are very keen on camping but perhaps next year things will be altered.

This years Concours night saw 18 shiny MG's sparkling in the sun, the winners were:

  • Best Soft top - Robin Rayner
  • Best Hard top - Dave Coventry who is, by the way, researching the history of his MGB GT,
  • Best Modern -Robert Pryer MGF,
  • Best car to take home - Roger Jefferson's Arkley midget.
Well done lads, and to all the other MG's that should have won, don't forget to polish your nuts for next year!

Next up was a Fish & Chip run to Dunwich on the east coast, starting at Clare passing through Long Melford, Bury St Edmunds, stopping at Kersey to wait for those who had got lost (sorry) held up. Whilst at Kersey we were treated to a water splash through the village ford in this picturesque Suffolk village, demonstrated by one of our MGF owners who thought his tyres were in need of a quick cool down, also showering the eight ducks that were doing what ducks do, then on to Stonham Barns our next stop for coffee etc to let those who had been held up again!
Here are some Austin Healeys on a similar day out I have no photos of the MGs at the moment, but if gives you an idea of what it was like!!

We arrived at Dunwich about 2 hours adrift to meet up with members of the Norwich MGOC who had arrived earlier and were advised by the proprietors to “Eat before the rush” so we did not get to have our F& C lunch together. It proved to be as they say a Logistical problem, but we had a chat and a walk along the beach etc and had a good day out.

Boules night went off without a hitch thanks to the efforts of Derek who had the rules firmly in his grasp and allowed no cheating (as if we would), winners on the ball were Jeremy & Peter C, those not quite on the ball but a close second were Allan & Joyce Griffin.

Punting is our next effort and I will let you know what transpired, next month.

A warm welcome to Richard & Karen, who have swelled our ranks this month.

Do not forget that om September 5th we have 30 USA MG enthusiasts visiting us here at the Cambridge Motel (on the A10) at 7 - 7.30
Bring your MGFs as they are dying to sit or even get a ride in one ( make it their 'Simply the Best day' ).
  • Sept 17th - Holiday Photo's competition. (webmaster: but I did not have a holiday!)
  • Sept 9th - Car Heaven at Steeple Morden,
  • Oct 1st - Natter at The Green Man.

Don't forget if you are intending to buy an MG, or have one, pop along make yourself known and ask the Xperts, we don't bite and you are sure of a warm reception. Regards Ray.

Email Ray to confirm meetings Meetings 1st and 3rd Monday each month. meeting at THE GREEN MAN Shepreth. 8.pm
