Important reminder for club members, the 'Club Concours' will be on held July 6th, at the 'Lion and Lamb' in the High Street, Milton.
Below there is a brief review of MG'98, but I must just mention the tragic accident which occured on the road outside the event. A young MG enthusiast was killed, as he was attending to his MGB Roadster in a roadside lay-by. He and his car were struck by a passing vehicle! The Cambridge & District MG Owners Club, have through the MG Owners Club at Swavesey, sent a letter of condolence to the young mans family.
It is an accepted fact locally that the road layout around the Duxford area is dangerous,
there has been talk of a new road to go around the complex, instead of through the middle.
Lets hope that something is done soon, so that nothing like this can happen again!
June, July and August are always very busy months in the
MG calendar so many events in fact, its almost impossible to fit them all in! Being an MG enthusiast is almost a full time job in itself!!
For the last couple of years the Cambridge and District have assisted the MG Owners Club at its national event at Duxfords 'Imperial War Museum', mainly with the parking of the 1000's of MG's that turn up each year. This year the local Air Cadets assisted with this task, which allowed members of the Cambridge & District MGOC to enjoy the event to its full.
There is a full photographic report Here
The weather, sadly, was not as good as in previous years, but no one seemed to mind much. The weather in fact on the Sunday, was better than the forecast hadsuggested. The rain came quite late in the day, and was all gone in again about 30 minutes.
In contrast to the wet weather last year, 'Silverstone98' was a lot drier. There were some showers early on Saturday, the middle day of this three day event, while Sunday turned into a scorcher!
Our very own, Brian Fish who while at last years event caught the racing bug, was himself racing in his self built MGB GT race car. Brian is currently racing in the 'Anglia Phoenix Championship. Brian, did not win, but finished well placed in the middle of the field, ahead of several more experienced racers, well done Brian!
There was a small contingent of supporters from the club cheering Brian on, which included Darren, Robin & Joyce, Colin & Tessa, Keith & Heather, Dave & Linda, Jeremy, myself (Kelvin) and of course Brian's wife Rita. After a full days racing and other happenings we were all ready to eat, and the kind weather allowed us to have a 'Club BBQ'. The club 'camp' was located in the quiet camping zone, so I hope we didn't make too much noise? 'BBQ Chef's' were Keith & David, it was beautiful, well done boys, just like the sausages!!! As the sun set over Silverstone, both myself and Jeremy had to leave for home. I followed Jeremy's roadster in the MG Maestro, taking an exciting cross country route back to Cambridge, which Jeremy must know very well. I hard a hard job keeping up with him, and I am wondering whether in fact he should be driving Brian's race car!!!
