Our Fish and Chip Run Sunday 29th June was a glorious day with not a cloud in the sky, which was good news for us since it was the day of our Fish & Chip run to Caister Castle. A gentle drive through the country roads from Newmarket to Caister is how the day was going to be…….not quiet how it turned out, with Robin taking the lead to start with, he set a cracking pace on the A11, (I can confirm that my new engine has now been high speed tested!), sadly as we reached Mildenhall one of our cars had to retire with a faulty coil Our first official stop was at Knettishall Heath, where we came across a group of people standing in a small river performing a ceremony, on further investigation we found that they were a group of Evangelists performing two Christenings in the river. Our next stop was at Reedham where we had to get a ferry across the River Yore, I know what you are thinking, I too did not know about this beautiful old crossing with an excellent pub on one side, where we had lunch.
Caister Castle was our final destination, where we spent a very pleasant afternoon relaxing in the castle grounds and touring the quiet impressive motor museum. We then round off the evening at the seaside with fish & chips. Golf was the order of the evening on the 7th July followed by a natter and refreshment back at the Green Man, where we welcomed two new members Tina in a recently purchased "BGT" and Luke with a beautiful "B".
Our final trip of the month was our alternative pub run starting from Budgens car park in Sawston, and ending up at the beautiful picturest village of Finchinfield, I had phoned the Fox to let them know that there should be between 6 to 8 cars coming, I think he was (as I was) a bit surprised when 14 cars turned up, we will look at doing more of this type of short runs in the future.
