Rays Roundup Silverstone 99

Ray's Roundup

Hello from Cambridge.

At a recent club evening which was posted as a Pub Quiz, our efforts at maintaining some sort of order were thrown into disarray by the arrival of a newly restored ARKLEY Midget. Of course we all trooped to the car park to " Give it the once over etc." and the time just flew by, the result being that the Quiz went out of the window and we had a Natter instead. Its amazing how much we have to talk about once we get started. Oh the joys of club life. Hope to see this car on future runs, as it has been restored to a fine condition and worth all the time and trouble of getting it to the standard that it is now in.

Our Bank Holiday Run, at the begining of May took us from the George Inn at Babraham, through some fine Suffolk villages on a prepared route to Lavenham and Long Melford. The run and the weather were both enjoyed by all, even the MGB GT owner who we gathered up at the start ! Thanks to Jeremy for another "Simply The Best" organised run.

No accidents to report after our 10-Pin bowling at Newmarket, although one bowl did find its way to a radiator in the opposite direction. Apparently the new Health & Safety regs do not allow French Chalk on the bowl-end of the lanes which makes it difficult to slide the bowl in, so I'm told.
Another enjoyable club event!

Silverstone 99

A small, but enthusiastic group of members made their way from Cambridge to Silverstone over the weekend of 4/5/6 June. Brian Fish, the clubs 'ACE' racing driver was entered to race in another round of the Anglia Phoenix Championship, one of many races on on a packed program for the weekend. Silverstone 99 will no doubt be remembered for the rain. Over the weekend their were numerous outbreaks of heavy rain. There was sunshine and blue skies too, so it was not all bad. Myself I arrived early Friday morning, giving me the chance to walk around the Silverstone pits, which was packed with MG racing cars. Other attractions included 'Traders City' where you could by virtually anything you could ever want for your MG. One of best events of the weekend was a display of driving skills by Russ Swift, who amazed the crowds by putting an MGF up on two wheels. I managed to get some pictures, and will publish them as soon as I get the films back from the photo lab. In the meantime see the 'Official' Silverstone 99 web page Here
