Short, sweet & to the point once more!
There has been some confusion over recent weeks about the venue for our club meetings. The confusion I believe has been an honest misunderstanding, but the membership
who met after the aborted 'Quiz Night', decided that a suitable venue had to be found.
To this end the committee of the club have decided that we should use the Lion & Lamb at Milton as the clubs new regular meeting place. The Lion & Lamb has in fact been home to the members of the MG Car Club in Cambridgeshire, for some years. A bonus too, is that the meeting room is no smoking!! Perhaps one day we might even together for a joint meeting!!!
The recent bad weather has put many people off from travelling to recent MG events.
Only three members from Cambridge went to Brooklands
recently. It was in a fact a beautiful day, with a short shower of rain only lasting a few minutes
The Club Diary has been recently updated!

Recenly myself and eight Cambridge MGOC Club members, including Dave & Linda, Alf & Peter, Bob T and his son, Darren (official pit crew!) & finally Brians wife Rita traveled up to Snetterton in Norfolk, to see our 'club secrtary' compete in only his third competitive motor race.
Scrutineering was at about 10am, but Brian along with other drivers who had not driven the Snetterton circuit had an appointment with the 'Clerk of the course'. This is standard for 'Rookie' drivers to have a little pep talk at each new circuit they drive.
This, as I have said, was to be Brians third race, the two previous races being at Cadwell Park & Brands hatch. Brians car is an MGB GT, the engine has been prepared by David Gathercole Racing. The rest of the car was prepared by Brian himself, apart from the paint work, which was done by Cambridge MGOC club member Bob Thompson.
1998 will be a fairly steep learning curve for Brian, tha Anglia Phoenix Championship in which he is competing has some very well prepared race cars, and experienced drivers.
So it comes as no surprise that Brian has been starting from some where near to the back of the grid. To his credit he has made progress up the field, but not enough to win any races yet.
For my part I was taking pictures which are to be studied in detail to help determine the cars handling, and Brians racing line. The photos have already revealed some problems with car, so it has proved to be a useful exercise.

Below I have included more pictures from the race meeting
You don't have to travel to the moon like Wallace and Grommit to have a superb experience, coming to Ipswich will do just as well. The town may not be the most exciting of places, but hidden in the suburbs there's a treasure not many people know of. If you're into vintage transport and lorries, then the Ipswich Transport Museum is the thing for you!
This collection, run by amateur enthusiasts from the areacomprises mainly buses, trams, trolleybuses and lorries that were either produced or used in Ipswich. A large proportion of the collection, housed in the old trolleybus depot, is devoted to the local company of Ransomes, known for their electrical trucks, cranes, forklifts, factory trucks and lawnmowers. You'll see platform vehicles, displays from the Ipswich fire brigade, Scammell tricycle short-haul lorries, a Lacre street cleaning car from the 20ies, a steamroller-drawn trailer housing roadmen of pre-WW I vintage, horse-drawn transport, hand-driven hearses and loads of buses in all conditions. Some can be mounted and if that's too much of a strain, you'll be able to relax in the tea-room. The very friendly and helpful staff are delighted to show you the workshop and storerooms as soon as they realise there's a fellow vintage car nut around. All that for only £2.25 gives you excellent value for money and your kids will love it (not only they, I promise).
Ipswich Transport Museum is located at Cobham Road, signposted from the A 14 exit Nacton, directly after the Orwell bridge. Admission from 12th April to 25th October on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays 11 am to 4.30 pm, in August also Monday to Friday 1pm to 4pm.
Prices £2.25 (adult), £1.75(concessions), £ 1.25 (child), £ 6.00 (family)
