Area Secretarys Soapbox! Cambridge MGOC Easter Run

Editorial

by Kelvin Fagan

The Cambridge & District MG Club continues to grow, (thanks for your support) as does the web site, and recent fiqures suggest that we are currently getting 10,000 hits per annum from the UK and around the world (thankyou). But why should someone in Los Angeles or New York, on the other side of the Atlantic, show an interest in a small English classic car club?
MG has the reputation for being the Marque of Friendship, and since my interest in MG's started some 5 or 6 years ago, I have not had any experiences that might suggest otherwise. And it is thanks to the World Wide Web, that the marque friendship is being spread the world over. Like minded people sharing the joy of ownership and helping each other with the exchange of ideas, and with the help of The MG Bulletin Board solving each others problems.
No other medium has this ability!

Before I go, can I offer my congratulations to the Cambridge University Boat Crew, who beat Oxford, yet again!, in this years Varsity Boat Race, for the fifth time in a row!

Area Secretary's Soapbox
by Brian Fish

Lots of thanks to member old and new who have braved the elements during the winter months on our 'Natter Nights', they have if fact more recently been some of the best attended!
The social scene of the club is very much 'alive & kicking' with lots more during the coming months to come, thanks to the hard working social committee.
By the time you read this, our first 'out & about' event will have taken place, the Easter Run, more on that I am sure next month.

Traffic jams do tend to cause some of us concern, and from time to time, make us all late for that important meeting. Can I urge as many MG owners to flock to the narrow lanes of Ashwell., Nr. Royston, Hertforshire, on Sat May 17th at around 2.30pm, to witness, what I am told will be, Simply the Best Wedding of the Year, when club members Darren & Arlene tie the knott!

Club Secretary.

You have To Be In It To Enjoy It
by Heather Fairchild

We (Heather & Keith) joined the Cambridge & District MGOC in July last year, and since then life has certainly changed! Having moved into the area relatively recently it has proved an excellant way to meet new people and visit new places. All MG owners know the thrill of their car but the club extends yet another dimension. Imagine the roar of the engines , as a convoy of MG's race across the country - what a buzz! (that'll be the head gasket Heather-editor!)

The club is already preparing for yet another fun filled summer of motoring, and a promise to get 'out & about' more this year. Our meetings have been lively and well attended and lots of ideas have been banded about, with anything from camping to bowling.
In fact our social calendar encompasses an activity most weekends. It's certainly the club to be in.
For the ladies or gents who want to look beautiful in their MG's this summer, I have included a 'slimmers' summer recipe!

Creamy Chicken Paprika ( serves 4, approx 205 calories per serving )

4 x 115grm Chicken Breast Fillets
1/2 Cup Sour Crea
1 Chicken Stock Cube Crumbled
2 Tablespoons Water
1 Teaspoon Paprika
1 Tablespoon Tomato Paste
1 Medium Red Pepper 'chopped'
1 Medium Green Pepper 'chopped'

Cut chicken into Strips
Combine the Sour Cream, Stock Cube, Water, Paprika and Tomato Paste in a large saucepan. Bring to boil and then stir in Chicken & Peppers, now reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 3 minutes or until the Chicken is tender. (Alternatively microwave on high for 5 minutes)

The Cambridge MGOC Easter Run
by Kelvin Fagan

Just a brief mention of the clubs first Easter Run.
Events on Easter Sunday a few and far between, so being the enterprising club that we are, we held our own & our first Easter Run on, Sunday March 30th (Easter Sunday).
We had a total of 24 cars, which gave us just about 50 people with some of the kids squeezing in here and there.

The run was about sixty miles and took in a brief stop for a coffee break at a picnic site, and later a stop off at 'P&A Wood', not known in the MG world, but if you have got a Rolls Royce or Bentley, then you would know that they are one of the worlds most respected restorer's of the Rolls & the Bentley.
Here is the only reference to P& A Wood I could find on the WWW.

I will present a fuller report of the run, along with some pictures, in next months newsletter. (Maybe sooner for our readers on the World Wide Web)
But I will just say this, the run was a great success, and for me the most rewarding part of the day was as we passed thru the beautiful little villages of Essex & Suffolk, was the look of pleasure on peoples faces, as we drove by. Their pleasure of seeing classic MG's being driven, can only be matched by our pleasure at driving them!
Cars on the run included Midgets, MGB's (Roadster, GT & Jubilee) MGC, MGF's, MG Maestro and a side valve Ford Pop!
Here is a link to the Ford Side Valve Owners Club

Congratualations & thanks to club member Geoff Haagman for organising such a great day!
Lets hope it becomes an annual event!.
