Hello from Cambridge
Well what a month it has been what with the weather and foot & mouth!
We have now sorted out the club's diary for the rest of the year and hope we have good weather on all our outdoor runs and activities. We are on Sunday 8th July having a "Fish & Chip" run to Dunwich from Cambridge, which means we meet at Cambridge, have a Run to Dunwich and buy Fish & Chips and have fun & games on the beach (weather permitting). So if any MG clubs in the area would like to join us there we would enjoy your company. Another club event falls on the 19th Nov, a Bowling Challenge at Newmarket, we have a Cup up for grabs so if your feeling brave, let me know and we will gladly accept any challenges bearing in mind that we have two semi professionals in our club i.e. they have their own Bowls.
A few notes on our recent Pub games, the competition was fierce and the intensity of some of the games was unbelievable, you could cut the air with a knife. The winners were rewarded in the usual manner, boos etc. If you own an MG or are about to buy one, come and make yourself known and speak to the Experts at one of our club evenings or runs we will be pleased to see you.

The annual Cambridge and District Easter Run tok place this year on Easter Monday, with just 7 cars it was not our biggest outing todate, but a manageable number of cars for a mini convoy of MGs. Saffron Walden was chosen as the start point and the run took a route through the Essex countryside to a location called Cressing Temple Barns, Coggeshall,

The massive barns at Cressing Temple
were built approximately 750 years ago. Both the Wheat
Barn and the Barley Barnwere built by the Knights Templar
and represent the medieval carpenters' craftsmanship at
its height. Within the Wheat Barn is an exhibition,
detailing the construction of the barns. At its centre is
a huge platform, which takes you up into the roof of the
barn, enabling the visitor to get a close look at the
timbers. Elsewhere in the grounds, there is
a recreation of a Tudor walled garden, featuring knot gardens and
a collection of phsyic plants, that would have been used by
apothecaries. There is also a fountain and a small ornamental
pool. The site is surrounded by a moat. The barns are set on the main road
(B1018) from Witham to Braintree. |
