Rays Ramblings

Hello from Cambridge
I did some maintenance on my midget recently, you know the things that need checking on the older cars, ( as opposed to my Megane which is so full of Black ominous looking black boxes with keep out signs, warning you that your warranty is in imminent danger of being withheld if you fiddle). Anyway there I was checking things when I thought I would have a peep at something I had fitted in 1996, to make life easier in the points department, just to see if the makers claims were justified. Midget owners will tell you that changing the points is one of the most challenging operations to carry out given the confined space which you have available. I'd had a tip from a motor mechanic who specialises in Dellow trial cars, and he recommended fitting an Electronic discharge unit close to the distributor. This unit once fitted alleviates the need to change the points, for at least 25k miles (claimed ). This unit is solid state, cheap, and is easy to fit, and I'm pleased to say after four years of motoring, that the points are as clean as a babies bottom (after a nappy change). I am somewhat surprised that articles on this particular product have not been publicised as one remedy for a tightly sited distributor, or perhaps I've missed them.

Some news on recent goings on. On our Pub Games Night we had knockout rounds at darts, dominoes and shove halfpeny or as renamed shove two p's, the rivalry was fierce and the eventual winners of each game were rewarded with prizes by our lovely Joyce who despite forgetting her Ting-a -ling made her voice heard above the heckling. Well done Ray, Dave R, Dave N, & Lesley.

If you own an MG or are about to buy one, come and make yourself known, and speak to the Experts at one of our club evenings or runs we will be pleased to see you.

    MG Racing 2000

The MG Owners Club Racing Championship got off to a flying start in March at the world famous Silvertone racing circuit, in Northamptonshire. As a keen MG racing supporter I was there watch the thrills and spills. For a couple of years I have been covering this particular championship for the MGOC's own motorsport page, but this season the reports are to return the Cambridge & District MGOC web site, where they first started 4 years ago. The reports have a new look, and I do hope you will get a chance to read the reports, which are fully illustrated with photographs. The championship is now in its 20th year, sadly does not have a major sponsor for this season as yet, hopefully will have news on sponsorship soon. If you cannot make it along to watch a race in the flesh as it were, then please do follow the regular race reports, which, as the season progresses, will be coming thick and fast!!!
Stop Press the first two reports are now out: Look Here

    New Newsletter

Members recently recieved (or should have) their very first issue of the newlook 'Club Newsletter'. This differs in content from the webletter, and is now produced by Jacqui Deakin and Jeremy Mustoe. First reaction to the new look has been very positive. Extracts hopefully will be reproduced on the internet as part of this 'webletter'.
The re-introduction of the 'paper' newsletter was seen as an important issue by the clubs committee, as many members still dont have access to the internet! (what planet are they on!) The editorial team may be looking for a catchy title for its new publication, so if anyone has any ideas, then drop a line to us with your suggestions.
Members of the Cambridge and District MGOC can email their contributions for the news letter to the editorial team, by droping an email to Jeremy Any contributions for the webpages should be sent direct to me, Kelvin.
We will both look forward to hearing from you.
Well that just about wraps it up for now, the next big event for the club is the 'Easter Run', on Easter Sunday (23rd April) Details of the run and its starting point and other important details from Jacqui Deakin.
