Last month, February, was a quiet month as far as activities were concerned at the club, especially since the weather had been so cold, but that is not to say that we have not been HOT sorting out all the events for the rest of the year. As promised below is our events list, which takes us into the summer months. April May June July August
In between those date shown above, some of us will also be attending the National Events, such as the Kimber Run, Bodacia Run, MGOC National Event at Brands Hatch, and MG Ireland, to mention just few. So, as you can see, there is plenty going on, and this is only up untill August.
Good Morning Cambridge MGOC, According to my calculations, the sun is rising on the Motherland. I attempted to contact your club last fall but could not find the correct path (go figure, I was a Political Science major in college as opposed to the youth of today and their computers). I just found this link so I thought I would try again. A little bit about my ties to the Motherland. First, while not an expert in my family tree, I believe my fathers side has it's origins on your island. Second, my father served as a bombardier in the Air Corp during WWII and was stationed in London. And third, and most importantly, I have the disease. I call it a disease but it is really a wonderful disease. Yes, I love British cars and more specifically, MGB's. I owned a 1962 TR4 and an 1968 MGC during my later college years and two years there after. Actually, my MGC spent most of it's time at the local British repair shop. Due to practicality, my disease was in remission until 1981 when I purchased a 1969 MGB. Unfortunately, I bought it because of the chrome wire wheels, not its mechanical ability. It became a shelf in my garage for three years before I sold it. Now the good part. Last June, after much research and joining the Willamette MG Club in Salem, OR, My wife Maddie and I purchased Mugsy. Mugsy is a Tartan Red (I think) 1966 MGB, Car number 69811. He was originally British Racing Green but has had a couple of average paint jobs. He is in good mechanical condition but needs the usual love of a 38 year old and I will be working on him during the winter for the next few years. I want to be able to drive him every summer. He is our baby and we plan to return him to his original glory in Tartan Red, inside and out. I plan to pass him on to my son someday. I also purchased a '79 MGB, with the engine out and no transmission, last October that I was going to part out but when I picked it up (I bought it on eBay), it was to good. No rust, straight, and complete, excluding the engine and transmission, so I have decided to rebuild the engine myself and make it complete. Now that I have bored you with my life, I will get to why I wrote. I see that your club has a visitor or letter page but I wanted to know if you will except members from across the pond? Obviously, I would not be a regular attendee, but would be privileged if I could become a member. It is my hope that Maddie and I will be able to come over in the next few years as we would like to see the birthplace of Mugsy and learn more about the British automobile history. I apologize if this letter has been a bit long but I wanted to cover all the basis. Should a membership be possible, please advise me of the proper procedure. For your amusement, I have attached the original announcement of our adoption. Again, thank you for your time and someday I would love to purchase an right hand drive MGB built for England. With regards, Jeff Taylor,
Jeff and Maddie Taylor with Mugsy - below is the adoption notice Maddie and I would like to announce that on Thursday, June 19, we adopted a new son into our family. He was born on October 10, 1965 in England. His natural parents were not able to care for him so he was sent to America where he lived as a foster child with several families. He was adopted 18 years ago by a woman in Eugene. Over time his mother, while loving still him, struggled with his adolescence. So on June 19th, with tears in her eyes, she signed him over to Maddie and me. She had taken good care of him and his medical condition is fairly good but at 37, we all know regular care is needed. Just prior to giving him up for adoption, he had a minor accident with some damage to his tush. He had surgery on July 8th to repair it and all went well and he is almost back to normal. Next winter he will undergo additional preventative care and should be looking like a youngster by next spring. We hope that you will get to meet him in the near future. Attached is a photo (above) of Maddie and myself with our new son, Mugsy Taylor. |
