| Rays Roundup | Club AGM | Running A Temperature | We are Number One! |
We have now had our AGM (see below) & most of the Committee, out of the kindness of their heart, have decided to stand for another year until Y2K at least! Well done Chaps & Chapesses, keep up the good work.
With 'Global Warming' continuing at a pace, this could mean that we will have more warm day to enjoy motoring in our MGs. Who knows what the ' that powers that be' (ie the government) will dream up for the older car say in the next 10-20 years and beyond. Will we in fact still be able to drive them ON THE ROAD, or are they going to be consigned to Museums, Rockeries, and Gate Guards, who knows?
Our 1999 committee met on the 25th of January, and several event/activity dates were thrashed out, if you have a Quick Look at the diary you will see what we have planned for the first half of the year, with a promise of further events being added to the calendar.
Diary Snapshot for February
On the 1st February come along to the Lion & Lamb, and bring with you all those 'tasteful' Christmas presents that you really did not want. Hopefully we can auction them off to unsuspecting fellow MG Owners. Any funds raised will be donated to charity.
On the 15th February we see the return of the popular 'Alternative Pub Night' and the first one for 1999 will be at the Red House, which is on the A1198, between Arrington and Longstowe. The Red House has recently been refurbished, so its time to check it out.
The club chairman, apparently, has already checked it out!!!
The first major MG event of the year takes place on the 21st February at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. How about a club convoy from Cambridge?
Monday 18th January 1999, Cambridge Motel, Shepreth.
In this months post bag is a letter (via email) from Colm McKenna
The first winter I had it, my '72 MG BGT consistently ran rough, and had (I thought) an intermittently malfunctioning temperature gauge and heater - they worked in heavy traffic and didn't when driving. I then discovered an oil cooler thermostat! After fitting it to the oil circuit (which was also a good opportunity to drain all the sludge out of the
oil cooler), the engine heated up properly, the heater worked even at outside temperatures of -4oC, and THE CAR RAN BETTER! It might not be the answer to all ills, but for under £15, it was far cheaper than replacing the heater and temperature gauge (and corrected the problem of overcooling a lot more efficiently than sheets of cardboard across the grill)
Happy Motoring
