February Newsletter 2004

Febraury already, so where did January go?
Well at least one Mondays' in January was taken up with our regular meeting at the Green Man, Shepreth.

The first Monday meeting of the year got off to a fine start with an interesting if not unusual "carrier bag competition for £1" where you have to buy as many different items for £1, this was won by Clare who had very carefully spent the time in a fruit & veg shop buying one of each item that she could find, can you imagine going into a shop with your shopping list and asking for, ONE small potato, ONE small mushroom, ONE brussel sprout etc, etc.

The second part of the evening became a lot more serious with a fiercely contested 'Jenga' competition, which got better on every game. Pete & David thought they had cracked it with 28 layers, but John & Mark went one better at 29 layers, and then 30, all the way upto 35 layers by which time there was a great hush in the pub with most of us holding our breath to see if Mark could lay that jenga piece to start the 36th layer, well it would have been quiet if the pub dog had not decided to start eating a bag of crisps under the table we were playing on, and yes, Mark did manage to start the 36 layer….just.
