Ray's Ramblings! Murray Who? MGC from USA

Rays Ramblings

I went out for a run in my Midget recently, soon after a bout of the flu and on my way to the garage I wondered "Will it start in this cold? will the battery be ok?" Well it did and it was, much to my relief! So after warming up the engine for a minute or so I bunged on the heater and soon began to praise the merits of the Midgets heating ability, as I've mentioned already, it was cold weather. I could have done with a pair of ear-muffs though! As for the run out it was a better tonic than all the pills and potions that I had been taking to get rid of the flu.

We, the Cambridge and District MGOC, have now had our AGM and had a good turnout, and it produced some new ideas on how best to plan not only the diary for the rest of the year and beyond, but how could we improve our club to the benefit of our existing members and prospective members.

Here is a brief summary: Club chairman Brian Fish stood down owing to increasing MG racing commitments, this post will not continue. (see club members Brian and Piers racing in the Anglia Phoenix Championship Dates & Venues Here. Heather Fairchild also resigned as a committee member to make way for new blood. The secretary (that's me) will carry on, but in a slightly less active way than last year but the other committee members will, after some restructuring, set about reorganising the coming years club activities, i.e. more frequent committee meetings, better communication with members by club newsletters etc., thus hoping to make our club even more attractive. And stay Simply The Best.

Thanks must go to Brian and Heather for serving the club over the past months (years) and thanks to those who came to the AGM and contributed to the proceedings. Club members who missed the meeting, if they wish may obtain a copy of the report on the AGM. By the way, the New years day club run was a great way to start the year, and could become an annual run, thanks Robin and Joyce who organised the days run.

If you own an MG or are about to buy one, come along to one of our meetings, make yourself known and speak to the 'Experts' at one of our club evenings or runs, we will be pleased to see you.

Murray Who?

Murray Walker

Many visitors to this site, from outside the UK will not have a clue as to whom Murray Walker is! Murray is a much respected Motor Sports commentator, who has been a broadcaster for 51 years. He has for many years been the Number 1 commentator for Formula One Grand Prix Racing here in the UK. He is famous for his 'goofs' when broadcasting to millions, he gets very excited and sometimes says the silliest things. He is pictured here riding in an MG, (can you spot what kind of MG?) being driven at Prescott Hill Climb
His father was a famous motorcylce racer in the twenties and recalls going to the Isle of Man TT races in 1925 at the age of two. Apart from his ride in the MG, Murry does not appear to have any other connections with the marque, but at least now if anyone asks 'Who is Murray Walker', you will know the answer!

MGC from USA

This is a picture of my 1969 MGC GT # 8712. I bought it as pale primrose in 1989 and used it as a hack to keep my B GT fresh for the shows. After renovation it is black with club racer mods appropriate to 1969 plus the Amco rack for touring. Since renovation in 1997, we have done about 45,000 miles in touring and daily use. 8712 has been from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the Gulf Coast to Canada. You have a great web page, I'll be keeping up with its growth and development.
