Rays Roundup MGs on TV

Rays Roundup
by Ray Bossom

Hello once again from Cambridge!
I hope that you all had a good Christmas?
Were you fortunate enough to get all that you wanted for Christmas? Alas my new MGF which I had hoped for seems to have got lost in transit, or even worse gone to the wrong address, Oh well dream on.
Because of the Christmas and New year break, I'm afraid there is not much to report in this newsletter. I can report however that members enjoyed the annual Christmas Dinner Dance, at the Shepreth Motel, which may I also remind you, is the venue for the Cambridge & District MGOC AGM, on Monday 18th of January. (8.00pm)

Will all members please try to attend, it is that time when we elect that most important body of the people, the 'Club Committee'

I expect we will retread our steps so to speak, in 1999, on some of those excellent outings that were arranged in 1998. This will possibly give those members who could not attend a second change to join us this year. These runs take quite arranging and it is gratifying when there is a good attendance, and it makes it all worth while.
On the 7th of December our club held a "Come Dressed As Your Hobby Night". I dont think the Landlord of the Lion & Lamb knew quite what to expect, but he soon found out though. There was one person dressed up as a 'Keen Gardner', flower pots and seed packets galore! We had someone dressed as a 'Cook' with recipes ect! We had an 'MG Racing Driver' complete in fireproofs and crash helmet!! We also had a 'Heavy Metal Motorcyclist' and the 'Auto Engineer'. I thought I saw the landlord smiling, I wonder what he made of it all?
Well done all of those who entered into the spirit of the evening.
We hope to have some photos perhaps next month

MGs on TV
by Kelvin Fagan

Are you a bit of an MG 'anorak' like myself?
One of my favorite past times while watching TV is seeing how many MGs I can spot. There are some popular British TV dramas which feature MGs on a regular basis. For example 'Heartbeat', a period drama set in the late 50's and early 60's, which in early episodes featured the main character bringing an MG TC back to life. The drama which currently has some new characters, features a lady, (whose name escapes me) who drives a white MGA.

I found some links for the Heartbeat Series, but alas no pictures of the MG!
Autralian based site!
UK based site
Both sites have lots of links, perhaps you can find the MGs

Over the Christmas period, I watched a 'Mystery Drama', set in June 1941. A 16 year old girl is evacuated to the country ( Hampshire I think!) to live with her aunts family on a farm. She discovers an affair between her aunt and an injured spitfire pilot, who happens to drive an MG TC (Burgandy in colour, Registration MG 5307). Tradgedy strikes the pilot, but not before we see several scenes of the car being driven around the Hampshire countryside.

There are many TV programmes and films which feature MGs and you will find most of them listed in the 'Trivia' section of the MG Bulletin board. You may have look in the archive
Once you have have entered the archive look for MG Trivia
