1934 MG NE Magnette

This car is one of seven built (another is pictured further down the page) for the 1934 Ulster Tourist Trophy. It was prepared for Tazio Nuvolari (who had won in 1933 in a K3). He withdrew over a sponsorship conflict (he was under contract to Shell, MG had contract with Castrol) and it was driven by Bill Everitt. After the TT, it was sold to H. B. Shaw who campaigned it in trials during the summer of 1935. He transfered the engine to his ND (reg No BKL265 - it was restored and is seen at various MG events - and on the Swedish MG Club web site as a K2).

The factory then fitted a short stroke K3 block and pre-selector transmission. It passed on to F. W. Carr who managed to roll it over at the 1937 Brooklands Easter meeting. The car then came to the the USA in 1955 and I bought it in 1972. I restored it in 1993 and have shown and raced it since.

1934 MG NE Magnette, (one of only 7 built) and no its not in the wrong section. This is in fact a racing car. It was specfically developed to win the British RAC Tourist Trophy race of 1934, this car was driven by the legandry Capt.George Eyston. This particular car never finished the race, retireing after 30 laps. It was another NE driven by team mate Charlie Dodson that went on to win after a very close race with Bentley, Lagonda and Aston Martin. Eystons car NA 0520 was brought to Australia in 1937, owned by various people and driven in competition right up until 1977. It was bought in 1982 by the York Motor Museum in Western Australia, and fully restored in 1994.

The picture is Erling Larsson`s MG midget. It's from Mantorp Park this summer. I don't know what year the car is from. He go's racing in the right way! He drives the car to the track and hopefully back too. And he has no radio! He pack's his car full and I mean full!! He has clothes, tools, and even a tent. If just one of the things get's in the wrong position he can`t close the trunk. Ivè seen him pack and I am very impressed how he get's it all in!.
