The Final Round of 1997
The first weekend of November, and mother nature gave us a reminder that winter was on our doorstep!! Dense fog on race day threatened the days proceedings. Conditions improved slightly late morning, and so the days racing could continue. In an attempt at getting all the races completed (before the fog came down again), all races ran a reduced distance(5 laps) . As a result not one race was lost from the days programme.

Due to a shortage of entries, Class A & B were mixed.
The two classes were to be separated by a ten second delay.

Class B
The Front wheel Drive MG's were away from the starting grid first, with Andy Campbell slipping through on the inside of Robb Addison at 'Redgate' on lap two. Addison was relegated further down the field, from second to third by Jamie Walker, on lap four.

Just 10 seconds after the start of class B it was:

Class A
Huw Taylor made an excellent start holding off the attentions of Walker, Mercer and the normally quick-starting Farman. Because of the weather conditions, the Class A cars had greatdifficulty staying on the greasy track. Mick Mercer was one of the first casualties at 'Craner Curve' with the ensuing cars scattering to avoid him.
Taylor continued to lead until a mistake, which sent him spinning at the 'Esses', left him back in fourth place. It was Walker who now led followed by Farman and Mercer until a collision with Ian Johnson moved Valentine through into third. Phil Walker took the chequered flag from Farman, Valentine, Mercer, Taylor and Mick Hopkins.
Mick Hopkins took fastest lap with an excellent 1m 51.67s

My thanks to Lorraine Clark for her invaluble help throughout the season, and to all the other racers who have made contributions and also have welcomed me into their pit area at the various race meetings.
We hope to be back in 1998!
