Feely Bag
On the 3rd of April we met for the “feely bag” competition. In this game a number of mystery items are placed in a cloth bag and passed around the members for them to try and identify each. During an MGOC meeting, it is appropriate for there to be MG parts in the bag and this time was no exception. Knowing that it was Allan who filled the bags might have given a clue as he had changed his suspension last year, leading to plentiful parts. The parts varied from as small as a split pin to as large as an anti-roll bar link and included a brake hose, an exhaust clamp, a spark plug and a universal joint.. There were two bags with 10 items each and about 20 members who split into groups. Nearly everyone guessed the bogus item (a glass ash tray from the Motel’s table!), but the top prize went to David, James and Linda, who scored 13 points and David took home a new oil filter. Second place went to the team made up of Doreen and Andrew and Irene and Barry. They got to share a bottle of polish. The third place, earning a set of polishing pads, went to Sally and Martin.
Easter Monday
On Easter Monday, John and his wife Ann hosted the Easter Monday run. Eleven cars started at a large supermarket car park in Ely and made their way to Downham Market via a 28 mile run visiting a number of interesting villages on the way. John had provided a short description and “potted” history of each village, featuring eels and a fellow countryman of mine, Cornelius Vermuyden; he drained the fens we crossed so we could use cars instead of boats. The end point was at Collectors’ World near Downham Market, where we got pride of place and parked our cars in front of the main house so all visitors to the museum could admire them on their way in. We spent a delightful afternoon examining the amazing and at times bizarre collection of paraphernalia from our parents’ era and before. Remarkably the collection included a number of Armstrong Siddeley motor vehicles in their separate section of the museum. The weather was kind to us, and this day again proved ideal for top-down motoring! Thank you, to John and Ann for arranging another great outing.
Natter Night
The last meeting in April was at The Pear Tree in Hildersham, where over 20 members turned up, some to enjoy the food, at a nice spring natter night.
