Further, "looking at the wiring", and removing/replacing/disconnecting parts, usually involves twisting, turning, pulling etc. This can cause bad internal connections or broken/corroded cables to remake contact for a time. Any crimped wire ends, and even factory made battery cable ends are prone to this. Battery cables corroded inside the jackets do it.

    James-
As Paul says about the pushrod. There should only be light pressure on it at rest, and you should be able to push the slave piston back easily by pushing on the arm.

If you cannot, then the piston is either seized or bottomed. Bottomed means the clutch itself has failed catastrophically. Seized means there has been pressure on the release bearing. If the car has been operated lik...

Cupped washer: I mentioned above I think the U-clip should go INSIDE the cup of this washer! This will prevent the clip from popping out I figured. Look at J. Barry's link from above:
    http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/product/coil-wound-dash-warning-lights-green/
Looks like SVC agrees with me, no? I'll try your way and see it's effect however.

I did just notice that my U-clip was "riding high" i...

I am having brain failure here, struggling to remember discussions on posts gone by. Mick reminded us about the problems of fitting the rear air filter upside down thereby blocking the vent holes; a point which I also regularly post as a possible solution to various aliments. However, please remind me if this only relevant to carbs with the internal drilling (no vent hole in the cap) or does it a...

I used David DuBois' circuitry (relay/diode/capacitor) on my 65 with the hydraulic switch. The switch was just a standard hydraulic one from NAPA. The setup has worked well for several years and is relatively simple. So far nice low operating pressure has been maintained. Without the circuitry you can expect short life sometimes measured in weeks.

Alternately or in combo with the relay ...

Double unlimited mileage? Sounds pretty good!

  • Jim Northrup17 May 2012

I think George has it. After looking at your images, the cupped washer IS UPSIDEDOWN. That washer should be cupping the spring and not the clip. Sure looks like resistance wire contacting that washer.

    Have fun with it!

    Ed,
How's your ignition switch been behaving lately? I could ask how old it is, but I have a feeling it is about the same age we are. Maybe it has arthritis?

Try turning your key on and off a couple dozen times to clean the contacts.

If you have a poor connection between the switch contacts, from A to IG, it is possible the battery voltage is dropping out and your ignition...

Thanksw to everyone for your ideas. I have always been careful to never fill the tank but this time I tried it only to get a check of the miles per gallon. Sadly, when the fuel came out of the filler neck while driving (full tank) it ruined the paint around the filler neck. The car was just painted a few months ago and now I have to get it back to the shop to get repairs made. Lots of fun!!!!!...
